Top ways to experience The Dubai Fountain
The area
Neighbourhood: Downtown Dubai
You can’t fail to miss Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. It towers over the city and resides in the prestigious Downtown development. Once an old army base, Downtown is now the jewel in Dubai’s crown, a beautiful residential and leisure area housing not only the world’s tallest building, but the world’s largest fountains and mall. Wide marble sidewalks are perfect for strolling, with restaurants, art galleries and children’s play areas. Specially commissioned sculptures line the roads and Downtown is often used as a canvas for modern art displays and community events such as Classic Car Shows and National Day parades. In the cooler months, cross one of the many bridges to the Burj Khalifa park and enjoy a picnic alongside residents and visitors, or enjoy a lunch or dinner watch the dancing fountains. Because of its mixed use, Downtown is a fantastic place to mix with Dubai residents and locals and watch real life unfold in a cosmopolitan environment.

- Dave AChristchurch, New Zealand346 contributionsGreat day and night time viewingThis is a must see and especially at night wit the water display and the Burj Khalifa light show. Its a good walk around and plenty of restaurants and eateries on most sides. We saw it during the daytime and from a restaurant at night. The light and water display is every half hour and each one is done to a different style and music.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 6 October 2023
- roymikeejoya2 contributionsDubai DowntownI had a dinner with my fellow delegates at ABD EL WAHAB RESTAURANT a lebanese cuisine and it was a great experience. just right outside you can see the dancing fountains at night come to life, right behind it is the burj khalifa shining and full of lights. - jordanellie41Longridge, United Kingdom1,088 contributionsFabulous showThis is something not to be missed. It happens every half hour on the hour and at half past but you need to take up your position a lot earlier as it gets very crowded. It’s a spectacular show where the sprinklers and jets dance to the music sending the water in choreographed directions along with loud firecracker sounds. The Burj Khalifa stands in the background and lights up in numerous colours and effects that add to the memorable experienceVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 October 2023
- galaxy148Glen Allen, Virginia806 contributionsAbsolutely brilliantSaw the show from beside the lake the first time but it was so crowded you could only see the tall fountains and the colours on the Burj but then we went for dinner at Joe's with a terrace table and saw it twice more and it was brilliant. Each time was different and to different music, both classic and modern. Lot like Vegas but the Burj being lit up adds to it.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 October 2023
- SilentTraveler22Dallas, Texas80 contributionsMust seeThis was so beautiful to watch! Caught the daytime show while at the mall. It was so hot outside but that didn't matter to me. I had to watch the whole show. I imagine that the boat ride on the fountains at night would have been even more beautiful. This was my most favorite experience in Dubai.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 23 October 2023
- Louis J4 contributionsVery nice , hopefully this review is different10/10 don’t really need me to tell you how great this place is however what I can tell you that is. Free view , anywhere around the fountain stood up. Cheap fantastic view , somewhere like 5 guys or Pizza Hut or vapianos Medium price but best view huqqa 2nd floor mall . You can’t see the burj but can see a better view of the fountain . Drinks start from about £4/5 to £10/15Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 October 2023

I was amazed to its majestic and perfect place to take a picture with Burj Khalifa. Even at night, the water fountain show is highly recommended to watch and visit. Probably in future will be colored light of jets (as in Bucharest). Not that lengthy display but it is nice enough not to drag. Goes on 30 minute interval. Reminds one of those in Las Vegas and Macau.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 November 2023

The Dubai Fountain is a wonderful attraction. In the shadow of the Burj Khalifa you can see a beautiful half-hour show, which is always accompanied by various pieces of music.
The same show never comes in a row.
Especially at night or after sunset you can only recommend everyone to watch the spectacle.
It is best if you take the VIP tour of the Burj Khalifa and can watch the whole thing from above. This makes it even more spectacular.

The fountain is no doubt the crown of the area. It starts at 18:30 and repeats after every 30 minutes. The last show is at 22:30. It's free for all but during the COVID-19 pandemic the area is regulated by security and the dubai mall access is closed if the area gets more people. Hence better to go a few minutes in advance.
The fountain area is not crowded and we could get a nice spot near the Souk-al bahar side railing which is in the centre of the 2 large fountain circles.
I've seen the fountain from 'At the Top Burj Khalifa' and I would still recommend seeing it from the ground level to be able to appreciate it in it's full glory. From the top i.e. 125th floor of the Burj Khalifa, it seems like little sprinklers with lights :D

The show runs every half hour on the half hour and a good way to spend 10 minutes away from the mall. We viewed at night excellent light and water show set to music which can be a surprising choice. The Burj Khalifa lit up in the background with its own light show before the show started. Can be very crowded but move around a bit and generally easy to find a good viewing point.

Located just outside the Dubai Mall with Burj Khalifa in the background, Dubai Fountain is one of the topmost attractions of Dubai. Every evening there is a 5 minute musical fountain show at this site which is breadth taking. Huge crowds turn up for the fountain show, so it is advisable to reach there and chose your place to stand 15 minutes prior to your preferred show time. Best time to visit the place is after sunset to enjoy the colourful musical fountain show with Burj Khalifa in the background.
Access to the fountain is free.

Anyone visiting Dubai and also the Dubai Mall should definitely visit the Dubai Fountain, where water games with water jets and music take place under the Burj Khalifa. Around the Burj and other adjoining buildings there is a huge artificial pond, which is only about a meter deep and which is bordered by some hotels, restaurants, a park and in which many water pipes have been laid for this unique and really spectacular spectacle to be able to show.
Every 30 minutes in the afternoon there is this wonderful and great spectacle that always attracts a large number of spectators. It is of course very interesting in the evening when it gets dark, then various pieces of music are played that change again and again. The underwater headlight-lights with the water nozzles, which sometimes shoot up the water many meters high in columns or in different patterns, are impressive.
This show is of course always in high demand in the evenings and at the weekends, so you should secure a good place very early, or in one of the many restaurants (e.g. mango), mostly on the 1st floor with a good table Reserve a view to enjoy this spectacle. The duration, synchronicity and effectiveness is very impressive and a must for every Dubai visitor.

Like the Bellagio in Las Vegas, it attracts mobs of visitors. We happened to catch an afternoon in mid January when it decided to dump "buckets" of water on everyone. Still beautiful.
Recommend arriving by 4 pm or so if you plan to find a photo worthy light & water show location. It's either go to the bridge or take a table at a resturant for better views.
Yes, there are lots of people but it is a beautiful memory to add on any visit to Dubai.

Outstanding water fountain show between Dubai Mall and Soukh Al Bahar. The fountains dance in the rhythm of different music trailers. The acoustics are stunning and the lights of downtown with a light show as well on Burj Khalifa make it an unforgettable and unique experience, which you can't see anywhere else. The show is for free and start with sunset at 6 pm and runs every 30 minutes . Plenty of nice restaurants and coffee shops are available with mostly good views. Avoid weekends as residents love the fountains as well and it can get a bit congested. If you combine it with a visit of Dubai Mall before it can be the perfect end of a day.

The fountains are a staple of Dubai, you cannot visit without seeing the fountain. I would recommend going to see it as night is falling in so you can see them lit up, they are on every 30 minutes I believe, and they dance to different music each time. It's great to stand and watch in the heat of the night and gives such a relaxing wonderful feeling. They are truly magical!

I had heard a lot about this Fountain show so expectations were sky high. Unfortunately it was underwhelming. The show starts in evening and happens every 30 mins for 5 mins. I saw 3 occurences one after the other and left feeling unsatisfied. Maybe it's to due with the fact that I have seen a much more grander show in New Delhi Akshardham temple which runs for close to 30 mins, is grander in scale and tells a story.
All in all good diversion if your are visiting the mall but would not recommend it as a standalone item in itinerary or making any extra compromises

Accessed from Dubai Mall are the Dancing Fountains in the Burj Khalifa lake. Evenings are the best time when the fountains, lights and music are switched on at 6pm, although visitors start assembling on the Waterfront, well before that. It is the world’s largest musical fountain and it’s free! The fountains consist of many jets blasting water up to 150 metres into the air and dancing in time with the music. There are 6,000 lights, lasers and colour projectors. The Burj is also colourfully lit up and the overall effect is extremely popular with visitors. So popular in fact that the number of visitors allowed on the Mall balconies overlooking the fountains have to be controlled.
After several hours walking around in Dubai Mall we watched the fountains from the balcony and the crowds for about an hour before catching a taxi back to our hotel.

Hello - is it possible to walk up to the boat ride to purchase tickets or must they be purchased in the mall? Also, is it recommended to prebook this?
We planned a beach day and I plan to watch the show then eat dinner in the mall. The next day we want to go to Burj Khalifa in the morning and then visit the souqs. Is it better to do it all in one day and go to Old Dubai the next?

If you want to be on the boat then book - they are nearly always full. If you need a link to a great ticket source just message me.
Regarding the second part, you could do either way really
