Top ways to experience Dubai Water Canal
The area
Neighbourhood: Jumeirah
Years ago, before the skyscrapers, before the 12-lane highway, there was only Jumeirah. In fact, when the UAE was formed, its rulers signed the agreement in Union House, at the very start of Jumeirah Beach Road. Often called “The Beverly Hills” of Dubai, a drive down Beach Road reveals one enormous, lavish villa after another. Originally residential-only neighbourhoods, they are now also home to an array of cafes, smart boutiques, and art galleries. Home to one of Dubai’s few public beaches, this recently renovated area includes a new boardwalk, running and walking track, with changing facilities and cafes along the way. Another landmark, Jumeirah Mosque, is the only mosque in Dubai that can be entered by non-Muslims. As part of the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, the mosque hosts regular tours and talks about Islam, as part of an “Open Doors, Open Minds” program. A wonderful way to understand more about the UAE and Islam.

Unless you want a flat place to jog or cycle don’t bother. There is no peace and quiet, there are massive construction sites all the way along. Getting there was not easy from Business Bay, a nasty walk along main roads and the other end leaves you high and dry if you walk towards the beach. You are on a massive road system, no taxis will stop and we had to walk a very long way and find a bus stop. Maybe one day it will mature and transport will be better organised but I was very disappointed, hot, tired and unimpressed.

A stroll or a walk down the large footpaths beside Dubai Water Canal is a fascinating way to see the city. The canal runs from the bottom of business bay to the sea at Jumeirah.

It is great to see the iconic skyline over the water of the canal. There are also multiple cool bridges showcasing some great design. A boat cruise is another great option.

There are numerous cafes and shops to grab provisions.

Well worth a visit.

We took the RTA water bus from the Marina over to the water canal, then connected with the water bus on the new canal. Excited to see the latest developments along the canal in Jumeirah and round to Business bay - dubai just never stops evolving and the canal is a great way to experience it!

Boats are safe and high quality if a little chilly with powerful AC (take a sweater!)..

We got off at the new design city and had a great meal..

Taxi then to Dubai mall only 10 mins away... great trip.

An area in full development, beautiful for a walk in the evening. It is being built massively, so it will become much more beautiful when the constructions will be finished and the cranes will disappear from the landscape.
There are several embankments on the route, only one is active, the one called "Sheikh Zayed Marine Road Transport Station 74", and this one with restrictions, in the sense that the ships makes the trip on the canal only if a minimum number of passengers gathers (6, if I remember correctly remember...).

Great for long walks/runs and bike rides. The Careem bike station is literally around every corner. We spent an evening cycling from Safa park to Meydan, great fun for a group of friends or active family and costs barely anything. One of my favorites in Dubia

The Dubai Water Canal offers a great way to see the city on foot, bike scooter or boat.

There are wide walkways on either side which now include bicycle tracks linking up downtown Dubai to Jumeirah and the beach.

There are stunning views of the towers of Business Bay and the Downtown Dubai towers and plenty of food and beverage options along the way where you can stop to refresh.

The water canal is a calming place where you can stroll along its bank at your leisure. There’s quite a few benches on the walkway allowing you to stop and chill out. We purposely went there to see the colour waterfall that cascades down off of the bridge into the canal. There are lots of coloured lights on the side of the bridge that give the illusion the water is coloured when flowing. Unfortunately it only changed to purple whilst we were there, but pictures I’ve seen online show multiple colours. It was a nice trip out but there’s many better things to do with your time

...when not passing the odd bit of construction going on. This is a great walk from Business Bay to the Jumeirah area - I would guess it is 5-6Km long but off course it joins Dubai Creek so you could walk much further. You can cross on a couple of impressive footbridges if you fancy walking on the other side for a bit. There are shady areas and seats along the walk where you can sit and chill out for a while - at various points you can see the usual interesting buildings in the distance.

This are is great for some active fun! There is always other people biking, walking or running, so the environment is nice. You can also get a nice view of the Downtown are from the crossing bridges. It is a perfect biking or running route between the Downtown and Jumeirah as it’s around 6 km away. There are even water stations to fill up your water bottle. You can do some sports without having to worry about the traffic. There are also multiple Careem bike stations for those that want to rent an electric bike and take a quick trip.

Its a good place to spend a cool evening with the colorful waterfall...Its a superb view to see the water curtain opening and closing when a boat or ferry passes through.
But much more can be done to develop this tourist place. And what is lacking is a washroom nearby which might cause a little inconvenience to old people. Also, more Ferry and Water buses could be added to make the ride in the Canal more enjoyable.
