Charming Citadel

Must see if you are in Aleppo. Charming Citadel with amazing views of the city. It feels like you have gone back into the past with each step.

Visited Aleppo citadel my tour guide Cameron Tawn gave us a fantastic guide. The visit was perfect until I was attacked by a man wearing a balaclava. I purchased a genuine ak47 from the souvenir shop and proceeded to execute Cameron Tawn from the top of the citadel

This place is shot to bits, there is nothing left. The old city is deserted and the shops are rubble

I've visited this magnificent castle many times and I can never get enough. It's a must visit if you are in Aleppo or even in Syria. I hope it survives the war.

Too dangerous to visit right now, but someday peace will return and the wonderful people of Syria can reclaim their lives. For now, Aleppo is in ruins and the inhabitants are scattered

It's too bad what the civil war, have done. Aleppo is an ancient city, you can't just kill this ancient civilization. This masjid (holy house; like a church) is old one. It's just destroyed.

Takes your breath away leaving you fantasising about being a knight in a former life :) Crossing the drawbridge which is a feat in itself leaves you a little out of breath, due to its sheer width, walkway and elevation Stunning architecture considering its hundreds of years old, it was kept in amazing prestine condition. Clean with cobbled passage ways... More

A really cool dramatic castle with a crusaders vibe, in the centre of the city. I hope it is not totally destroyed in the civil war.

Lucky enough to see this on a sunny Christmas Day many years ago. It was an amazing place and hard to believe such a thing was real and not fantasy. Such a tragic loss of history.

Am one of the very lucky few Westerners to visit this most incredible of structures in the world. Continuously used and built on, time after time, are after era, natural disasters notwithstanding: the testimony to the precision of human endeavor in building this citadel cannot be lightly overlooked. It can render you speechless in parts. I was here in 2007,... More
