Good sized typical Asian market on the outskirts of town…the usual clothing, shoes, electronics and whatnot, household items and plenty of produce and proteins. Nice to stroll through for an hour or so. Prices reasonable and negotiable.

A pigs head, a bowl of live fishes, a haircut, some rice, your 5 a day veges, a new sim card, some carpet, a new longyi, a screwdriver, some textbooks, a notepad and pencil, a turned wooden pestle......this is local shopping and it's a great place to visit.
It's a little bit out of town. It's a very down home glimpse of day to day life in Laos and not to be missed.

This market is a kilometre or two outside town. We were dropped off there but easily walked back. If you want to see a real, working market, selling everything you could imagine, go for the experience. Very few stall holders speak English.

This market is a good 30 minute walk away from the tourist area, but is worth the walk because items are a lot cheaper here, being the main market for locals. Don’t expect money changers in this area though, although there is a bank with ATM across the road.

Phosy Market is the popular traditional market in Luang Prabang. It is very lively and friendly, and it also stretches out in all the nearby streets. It is a great place to see and learn about fruits, vegetables and all kinds of meat and food in general.

One of the many open air markets in Luang Prabang. Here is where the locals buy their food, tools, clothes and everyday essentials. This place will give an insight to how the people of Laos live, their living standards and what they eat. Navieng Kham Market (not listed on Tripadvisor) located next to Kiridara is another absolutely wonderful open air market to experience how the locals live.

If you want to see an authentic SE Asian Market, then come here. It’s definitely not polished for the tourists.

Raw meat is piled up on wooden boards left to fester in the heat with flies crawling all over it. Colourful vegetables line the narrow alleyways of market stalls.

Mountains and mountains of as many different kinds of rice you can imagine. Sugary snacks, Lao traditional food. There’s so much here and not a single tourist was there when I went.

About 10 minutes by bicycle - very close to Ock Pop Tok's living crafts centre - this is an indoor traditional market.
If you want to buy the yummy local seaweed speciality Khai Phaen, you'll probably get the best prices here.
