Centrally-located in the old city, this temple is magnificent. The intricate gold carvings on the facade have a beautiful patina (a welcome change from many sparkling and gaudy temples in the region) and the frescoed interior is quite marvelous.

Yes, Luang Prabang has wats on every corner, and this is a particularly beautiful one. Lots of gold figures with intricate detail on the facade. This temple complex was built in the 16th century and has survived many centuries of invading armies.

The carvings and on walls both inside and out are particularly beautifully made. Buddha is well represented and we particularly enjoyed the ‘fortune telling’ sticks once translated from Lao script.
