The Ock Pop Tok Living Crafts Centre is where the fascinating world of Lao textiles comes alive! Set in the grounds of a stunning tropical garden on the Mekong, it's the perfect place to learn more about this unique Lao art. We offer free guided tours where you can meet our weavers, artisans and even the silkworms. We also offer a range of classes in weaving and dyeing, which as our reviews show, are an unforgettable experience. Our Silk Road Cafe by the river is the perfect place to relax and enjoy our "east meets west" inspired menu, or simply enjoy the stellar sunsets with a refreshing drink.

My wife persuaded me to go to silk dyeing with her. Reluctantly I went but I have to say I am glad I did. We had an interesting tour around the grounds and we saw silkworms, the process of making silk. We also saw a number of ladies weaving intricate patterns on old style looms. I was also very interested... More

Good visit to see very talented craftsmen working hard and being rewarded adequately for such high standards. Lovely gifts to buy. I would like to know if it is possible to buy these goods in England!!!!

I took the half-day fabric dyeing class at Ock Pop Tok when travelling alone in Luang Prabang. Oun, our instructor, was very knowledgeable and walked us through the entire process of making natural fabric dyes - from picking indigo leaves to steeping the dye to drying out the dyed silk. I can't think of any way that class could have... More

We were staying on the edge of Luang Prabang so decided we would walk to Ock Pop Tok - actually it didn't take long at all. It was a lovely tranquil place and it was great to see the explanation to how the colours of the silks were achieved. It was a shame there was one one person there weaving... More

Dear LockyNorwich, Thank you for sharing your experience here. Sorry that the weavers were not here during your visit, they are all entitled to take a day off for every special buddhist day. But it's great that you in the end got to see the monks! We hope to see you back again when our weavers are here! Best regards,... More

We visited the shop in town and learned of the opportunity to learn weaving and dying at their craft center. We took the help day class and enjoyed ourselves. Learning how these crafts are created is the best way to gain an appreciation for the level of skill on display at their and other's shops. Truly an art. I recommend... More

Whilst we visited on Buddha Day when the normal workers had a day off we still enjoyed the experience. They showed us all the looms and then what they make the various coloured dyes from, some quite surprising. Then with assistance we chose a colour to make a dye from and then made ourselves a tie dyed scarf. We found... More

We only visited briefly, over lunch hours, but really enjoyed the compound and the gorgeous handicrafts (yes, expensive, but gorgeous) - as well as the viewpoint bar. The centre also has a guesthouse and the rooms looked very fine, with a beautiful river view. I would consider saying there another time. There is a free tuk tuk service in town,... More

We were picked up from our hotel and taken out to the centre, which is on the outskirts of the town. There is an archway to walk though that opens out onto some lovely kept gardens. Booked a class while my husband went trekking. It was a wonderful experience - which I would repeat. I did the 3 hour course, was taken to the crafts centre and brought back again. Very relaxing, informative and came away with my very own table mat made of silk. Very proud.
