- Ann TWilmslow, United Kingdom59 contributionsExcellent tour and delicious ice creamA group of us had a really interesting tour of this enterprise this afternoon. Whether you are a family with small children or adults there is so much to enjoy. You can stroke rabbits, pigs, milk the buffalo etc but also learn how this farm is not only employing Laos folk but also educating farmers to improve production and mother's to improve nutrition. So worthwhile not to be missed when in Luang prabang.Visited January 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 13 January 2023
- Angie O25 contributionsGreat tour & great buffalo ice creamThere r two tours u can do , one for 140000 tour one)and one for 240000 Kip tour 2( £12.50) .we did the tour 2 as it involved see all farm animals, goats, rabbits , buffalo , milking the calves, brushing the buffalo and having a taste of buffalo ice cream , cake and a tea or coffee. We had a young Costa Rican girl take us on the tour and it was only her second tour and she was excellent.Gave us lots of information. There was only four of us and the guide. We enjoyed the tour very much (approx hr long), especillay feeding the calves and having a go at milking the buffalo. The resident cat even came on the tour with us and sat on my husbands shoulder the whole time lolVisited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 January 2023
- Janice RFarnham, United Kingdom6 contributionsSurprisingly such a brilliant and interesting visit! We stumbled on ‘The Buffalo Farm’ when we were out exploring the country side with our taxi guide. It was such an interesting and fascinating visit to learn about the Buffalos, their environment and the recent development of the Buffalos in the area which really surprised us. It was great to get up close to them too as we initially thought we would only be seeing the from afar. ! An added bonus was the pigs and the rabbits, which were also interesting as well as fun. The farm offers a great environment to relax and to try the delights produced from the Buffalo’s milk. We tried really yummy cake as well as delicious ice cream (recommend coffee as well as the baileys). We are absolutely delighted we dropped into the farm and given our limited time for the visit we thought the presentation of the farm information was spot on! - Alex HPort St. Mary, United Kingdom1,313 contributionsA unique and brilliant visitWe came here after visiting the nearby waterfalls and we’re so glad we did! There are two types of yours, and we selected Tour 1 which was 145,000kip. This included a tour from the lovely co-founder and we got to learn about the history of the farm and up to the present day what is being done. We also got to feed pigs, rabbits and buffalo, and even got to milk buffalo! Afterwards we thoroughly enjoyed the buffalo cheese board selection for $6 and then the ricotta cheesecake for $4. I highly recommend visiting here for a unique experience in Luang Prabang, particularly as your money is going to a good cause! The treatment of the animals appears excellent and ethical, and at no point did we ever feel like they are not being cared for properly - the owner loves each and every one of them!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 March 2023
- ZhengHuaSingapore, Singapore2 contributionsGreat tour!Went to Buffalo Dairy on 24/3/23, had a great time with guide Daniel who's well versed despite it being his first week. Ample time given to interact with the animals, interesting crash course on farm animals. Definitely a place to drop by on the way to or back from Kuang Si Falls. Highly recommend!!Visited March 2023Written 25 March 2023
- MaikemonMunich, Germany17 contributionsHands on livestock experience at education centerLovely project, they teach tourist and locals how to raise and care for farm animals. The animals are in good shape and well cared for and live under conditions which conventional farm animals in the “western” world could only dream of. They have a team of well educated expats, who are willing to explain everything. It’s more of an educational and social project then an actual farm and the tours are a very hands on experience- perfect for children and city folk who want to get in touch with livestock.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 May 2023
- Phil WYorkshire, United Kingdom931 contributionsHighly RecommendedI called into here on the way back from Kuang Si waterfall as it is just off the same stretch of road. It’s a great place to visit. The owners and staff are quite obviously devoted to the wellbeing of their animals and you get to interact in a positive way with most of them. Make sure you try the ice cream too. Highly recommended.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 24 October 2023

Like many other visitors, we visited the farm on the way back from the Kuang Si Falls. We had to choose from one of two available tours. The kids enjoyed it immensely as it gave them the opportunity to feed the rabbits, pigs and buffaloes, as well as see what how a farm operated. And all of us enjoyed ice cream at the end of the visit.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 November 2023
- Sue MHarpenden, United Kingdom382 contributionsWorth a stopA great stop off on the way to or from Kuang Si Falls. A social enterprise helping and educating local communities on the welfare of their buffalo and introducing them to the idea of milking buffalo; never previously done in Laos. Set up by an American and an Australian lady, it is a great place to spend a few hours for adults and children. No need to prebook. We saw around the farm, got to meet the animals, milk a buffalo and help give the buffalo a scrub. Afterwards, we enjoyed some very tasty buffalo milk ice cream.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 December 2023

If on the way to the falls, be sure to stop here for some buffalo milk ice cream! Many great flavors and it helps the dairy too :)

This is definitely a must-see during a stay in Luang Prabang. It is a great way to give something back as this social enterprise supports local communities. We enjoyed our tour of the dairy and fell in love with the Lao buffalo, Mary. After the tour we enjoyed a delicious morning tea with cakes and icecream using buffalo milk.

We visited Laos Buffalo Dairy outside Luang Prabang - two families with 4 kids, aged 2 to 6 - and it was a fantastic experience for everyone. The place is great, full of animals (pigs, bunnies, goats... and of course the amazing buffaloes), and you get to interact with all of them. The staff - in particular the owners, two inspirational and wonderful ladies from Australia & US - were so welcoming and took the time to walk us around and talk about their place and share their wonderful history.
As for the buffaloes: They are the stars of the visit - gentle and kind, well looked after, and great big animals you feel comfortable being around, thanks to the guidance of the knowledgeable staff. They are part of an initiative to educate local farmers and visitors alike, about the benefits of dairy when raising buffalo.
The visit includes a wide variety of food/drink all containing buffalo milk (cheese cake was awesome).
Well worth the time to visit - adults and kids loved it!

We were so impressed by the social enterprise nature of this dairy farm and so inspired by the undertaking of the founders to make their dream a reality. Our two teenagers LOVED the tour and had so much fun feeding the animals and then enjoying the ice cream and cake at the end of the tour!

The Buffalo Dairy was interesting. We tried a sample of buffalo ice cream and cheese, and then got a tour of the farm. The purpose is to educate the local farmers about the benefits of milking their buffalo and goats. We were able to feed and pet the animals, and tried milking one of the buffalo as well!

We had a wonderful afternoon here. The service and attention to detail was amazing. Our tour started with a selection of the cheeses made at the dairy shared with two buffalo. We then had an excellent tour of the facility and fed and bathed the buffalo. As animal lovers it was an amazing experience. Our afternoon ended with beautiful cakes and coffee back with our two new buffalo friends.
We have travelled to nearly 90 countries and always seek out any animal experiences and projects. We loved the innovation here at the dairy and the ways they are helping the people of the area. Very inspiring 👍👍😎

How much is the tuk tuk ride there?
WirksWanderer

I’m not sure ..... there were three of us and we hired the tuk tuk and driver for the day through hotel we were staying at. ...... because we had the tuk tuk for the day we went to a number of attractions in the same valley. There is the Buffalo farm but the main attraction was the waterfalls and bear sanctuaries and in the way back we also went to a butterfly reserve too. A brilliant day and a lot cheaper and more flexible than is we’d had an organised trip.
