It was a great experience walking up the hill. People were in a hurry to get up but we took our time and interacted with the people and shopkeepers along the way who are very friendly. Once at the top we were rewarded with a great view of the city. We stayed until after the sunset and enjoyed the night... More

"If you are in Mandalay, you must see the sunrise from the hill". These words were enough to convince us. Early wake up, and after a short walk, we were there at 05:30 am. We were almost the only tourists, and the sun offered us a lovely sunrise. I would suggest to do it in the early morning, using the... More

well, simply it's a waste of time.because a 40 minutes drive will cost some of your valuable times front seeing some other places.. just a hill.. pagodas on top of that..as usual.. but nothing specific or amazing

If you have problems with the heat, go very early. We walked the stairs on the south end, both. They're splitting in a Y-section in one of the smaller temples on the way up. That is really worth it, because the views are different. So for me that likes to take photos, the changes of views was a highlight. So... More

We enjoyed the views from the top of Mandalay hill. Only struggle was to get up, we in a group rented a car to be brought up, but the ride reminded me more to a rollercoaster ride.

Again a great site for panoramic views of Mandalay . Also good for a cardio workout as lots of steps if you do the top ( bare feet as is custom)

If you don't like climbing, use the escalator. Foreigners pay 1,000 kyats to use the escalator. Foreigner pay a further 1,000 kyats to visit the pagoda at the summit. The view here is definitely worth the entrance fees and the climb up.

The views from Mandalay hill are incredible. You will be walking around the Pagoda grounds in bare feet as shoes are not permitted. You will see a vast group of people including monks so it is fascinating. From the west side you can see the large prison where many political prisoners are kept. You can also gauge the size of...
