A wonderful place to visit. I think it’s the first wooden temple I’ve been in, although reading the history behind it, it’s a bit like Triggers broom.
Well worth a visit, photos don’t do it justice.

Absolut Gems in the city! The only one really old and perfectly preserved!
Teak wood carving work and architectural elements makes you feel humble and admirative; the special atmosphere of the place brings you back in time...
Take enought time to admire all detailed and get immerged into the grandeur of this civilization.
Not to be missed in Mandalay !!

Absolutely beautiful would recommend on your trip to Mandalay. Try to go when less tourists are present. Something you would rarely see anywhere else

The all wooden teak monastery was built about 1880, in the Kone Bhaung era, and is in an archeological zone. Currently undergoing restoration.

A royal monastery of the Kon Baung Dynasty during the time of Kings Mindon and Thibaw, this architectural/craftsmanship gem is one of the finest examples of the quality of Burmese teakwood carving craftsmanship. Buddhism is heavily intertwined with Burmese arts and culture and an intrinsic part of Burmese life. Hence, religious imagery and symbolism permeate throughout every strand and fiber of the fabric of Burmese life, manifesting everywhere in various forms - in architecture, art, music, and dance. This is definitely worth seeing, and even better for context, you should visit both Mandalay Palace and this monastery. You can purchase a pass that allows access to the palace, the monastery, and a few other attractions in Mandalay.

Other monastery visits may display better more varied architecture ,a greater insight into monks lives but this is worth a visit.

Shwenandaw Monastery is famous historical site in Mandalay. It was an apartment of King Mindon. It is only one remaining royal palace hall from Mandalay Royal Palace. It was maintained by Archaeological Department. It is open 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. There is no close day. If you go to there, we have to pay entrance fees. That entrance fees, 10,000 kyats include Golden Palace Monastery, Mandalay Royal Palace and Innwa(or) Ava.

Really enjoyed a look around this beautiful palace with its wonderful teak carving. So nice to see the painstaking restoration going on onsite as well. A must see in Mandalay!
