A truly positive experience to see the rescued bears up close and in their new habitat. The sight of bears climbing trees, playing in the water pools or just lazing in the meadows gives a feel for the true nature of the animals and is wonderful to see them free from their earlier horrific exploitation. A lot of hard graft... More

We visited the bear sanctuary for the 11am tour. We got a bus from Brasov towards Zarnesti (go around every half an hour) and asked the bus driver very nicely if he could drop us off at the bottom of the road which lead up to the sanctuary. From there it was a 2.5 km walk uphill. There is some... More

For me, this was my favourite place in Romania. The area itself is beautiful and the bears are incredible. It was amazing to see a place that takes such good care of these animals that have been mistreated their whole lives. The staff are really friendly and are always ready to answer any questions. The place is a bit hard... More

Tue - Sun, there are visiting groups at 9, 10, 11 and, at least today, on Sunday, at 12. You are not allowed to enter by your own. The bears are fed in the morning and they stay by the fences for a while, but later they leave and cannot be seen anymore. The road is unpaved, but doable by... More

The Libearty Bear Sanctuary was a wonderful trip for our group of tender hearted 20-somethings. We all enjoyed the educational experience as well as the uniqueness of getting to be very close to real bears. They absolutely beautiful and you can really feel the connection with them, despite being separated by a fence. When you arrive at the sanctuary, you... More

Romania used to have a lot of travelling circuses and attractions that used bears for entertainment, and were usually kept and trained in cruel conditions. The bears are too domesticated to be released back into the wild so the Bear Sanctuary very kindly houses them here, with large enclosures so they can live out their remaining years in comfort. The... More

The work that is being done at the sanctuary is amazing, it is a tragedy what has happened to these bears and unfortunately they can't function in the wild so this is the next best thing. Worth a visit as your entry goes to funding the continuation of this amazing place.

To see the bears that have been tortured and used as a means for entertainment set free and in their natural environment is a powerful experience. Note that this isn't built for humans and their entertainment, but for the caring and treatment of those poor animals - and that sets is apart. Seeing a bear walk in a circle and... More

What a fantastic place, we went for 10.00 and had a smallish English speaking group with a fantastic guide. She was very very knowledgeable and passionate about the bears and if you didn't dawdle and wander off you could learn a lot. Unfortunately some people lagged behind taking a 100 photos of the same bear and not listening to the... More

Really cool place to go and see the bears up close. They have all been rescued from captivity and placed out in the open with lots of other bears. Lots of them have come from circus' or shows so its a bit sad to hear what they have dealt with. We were there when they were being fed which was... More
