It was raining when my husband and I visited The Aquarium. I cannot remember the price of the ticket but I know it was very cheap.
We were the only people inside and we felt strange. We had no guide and there were just a few explanations in English here and there.
The place is very dark and you have to bend to see some fish there (if any), through the green thick glass. We concluded that we could see more interesting species in any Bulgarian restaurant and we laughed a lot. After that, we felt sorry for people working there and for many other things...
The worst thing was that when we went out we both felt terribly sick. That was because we had had dinner before and we kept bending to see the poor creatures fighting to survive there.
Varna is really nice and there are many things to do there... so maybe you shouldn't go to The Aquarium... unless it's raining.

I was excited to see the aquarium as I am an avid fan. Walking in was like walking into a pet store. I have owned, raised and bred every species of fish displayed. Almost every tank (about 40) contained common American pet store fish. Largest tank contained Japanese Koi which were of common variety. Great place to kill 10 minutes while walking through the park.

It's pretty cheap and could be nice for kids, but it's really small. Some of the signs are wrong (unless the salamander looks like a turtle), and the tanks are about a meter above the ground. There's also a display of dead /preserved fish and marine life.
The fish are typically not in good condition, and some are in really small tanks compared to their size.

I was badly surprised. I visited this aquarium 40 years ago and it is the same one! Like a museum of communist period! You can find only a few aquariums with common fish (no sea turtles, no special fish species from the Black Sea - as is promoted!!!), old fashioned filters etc. No refreshments, no bistro or restaurant, even no WC! A waste of money and time!

My boy is 5 and passionate about sea animals. He liked to sed some fish there but even him (easily to be enthusiastic) was surprised “this is all?”. Small, precarius, poor experience. Enjoy the park and the sea instead.

I would not recommend this place to anybody. It was not worth the entrance fee, I probably spend 10 minutes in the aquarium and did not see anything remarkable.

Old-fashioned, dull and boring. There are boring scientific descriptions under the fish displayed. We expected so much more from a major marine city like Varna. Don't waste your time there.

Unfortunately I think calling this an aquarium is something of an overstatement
It's probably got about as many fish as a local pet store
The whole building is pretty run down needs a good revamp
Not really worth visiting unless you have half an hour to burn..
Spend your time at the archaeological museum instead

Walking around the Sea Garden and Varna in general, we stopped by the Aquarium for a coffee and to view the attractions. The dolphins seemed to be well cared for and the attractions were clean and accessible. It was a surprise to find this place, but added a bit of fun to the day. I recommend to visit and support good quality events.

The exhibition is not very rich compared to Yokohama or Sidney aquariums, but the place has a lot of provincial charm and is a nice way to spend couple of hours in a historical building in Varna Sea garden.

Price of the entry ticket. Does it open in October. Can we see dolphins in october
Written 5 August 2017
The price I can't remember, but it was cheap, around 5 leva BGN for adults. for the live dolphins you have to go to the Dolphinarium, down the road, but when I was there(during Eater) it was close due to the national holiday. This is only a museum, with some water tanks with fish.
