This is the oldest church in the city. It stands on the site of the massacre of 40 Christians of Plovdiv, committed in 304 under the Emperor Diocletian. Of course, now we see a modern church built in 1832. The most remarkable part of it is the bell tower, consisting of five tiers. Surrounded by a high stone wall, the Church of Saints Constantine and Elena is considered the most beautiful in Plovdiv. The murals in the church were made by the famous Bulgarian artist and icon painter Zachary Hristov Zograf (1810-1853). This is a monument of religion, history and culture of the city of Plovdiv, which must be seen with your own eyes.

This church is one the most meaningful churches in Plovdiv. It's big and nicely decorated in the interior.

A gateway leading to a small enclosed garden, you could easily walk past this church as you head for the lookout point. There are some frescos on the outer walls as you head inside...
And inside, it’s a different story again. Very beautiful.

I am not much into churches. However this one I find charming and beautiful.
Located in the Old Town , it adds to the magical atmosphere of the area. Gorgeous inside, with enchanting court yard.

the church is located on the Acropolis, it's on the way to Nebet Tepe; it's easy to identify, following the tower bell, but it's a little bit strange to find the church behind a tall wall
the place has a long history, starting with the martyrs of 304, then with the first church build there, 30 years after
the nowadays construction has been erected in 1810
the church has unusual but beautiful frescoes, and a very nice interior, with a Baroque iconostasis
a must to see in Plovdiv

The church is really old and does not attract your attention on the outside but the interior is very pretty as well as the outside frescos.

Lovely frescoes at the entrance welcome one to the grand place of worship. Contributing to the grand facade, in addition to the elegant and ornate white tower belfry.

Richly embellished, the interior is striking. A marvellous iconastasis is the divider between the between the priest and congregation. Gilt and paintings make it an awe inspiring sight.

Predominantly in a dark azure hue, the lined ceiling has some holy images and impressive suspended lighting.

I was confused or was not sure about the building when I first saw it. From outside, it does not look like an Orthodox Church, no high steeple, no tall building!

Instead, it looks like a cottage with beautiful garden around it. Going inside, I noted the beautiful frescoes, icons, chandeliers, priest's chair, etc.

Near this church is a Gallery showing icons and paintings made by Arts Students.
