I was in a day tour from Sophia to Nis, Serbia and this attraction is one of our stops.
It's the location of the summer palace of Constantine the Great. The tour had a brief stop here and I find good to see (I noticed many negative reviews here).
I have not heard of the name of "Constantine the Great" since my history class in Form 3 of secondary school, so the visit is quite interesting for me.

The ruins of a 4th century Roman villa where emperor Constantine grew up. Later it served as a temporary residence option along the Via Militaris, in Roman times the main road between Singidunum (today Belgrade), Serdika (today Sofia) and Constantinople (today Istanbul). There are many floors covered with mozaics, but only a few are made visible to the public. Most of the site is under a newly constructed roof protecting you and the site against the burning sun.
Entrance fee: 150 Dinar includes the service of a guide.
Bus 1 takes you to Medijana from the center of Nis (one way ticket 80 Dinar).
It is possible to walk along the Nishava river to the village of Brzi Brod (7km) and from there to Medijana (2.3 km).

This is one of the most important Archeological site in Niš. It was constructed during the reign of emperor Constantine the Great and his heirs. This place was also used by several other Roman emperor as their temporary residence.
There isn't much founding to see honestly but a 15min free tour by a guide is included when you enter. So that you get to hear some stories about this site. There is a siege weapon outside the site.

Drove all the way from Belgrade only to be told to “go away, no tourists”. Apparently you can’t visit unless part of a tour. If you’re in Nis I would recommend the skull tower, concentration cap or fortress, but don’t waste your time trying to find Mediana unless you like paying through the nose for pre booked coach tours of some bricks in a field.

One of the main sights in Niš, apart from the fortress and Ćele kula, should be Medijana - the historical place where Roman emperor Constantine the Great resided. However, there was nothing to see. The gates were closed, and on the ticket office stood two different notices: one is with the working hours (and it is not open for the whole day!) and on the other is a notification that Medijana is closed until spring 2017. Well, mid April is spring.
The parking lot is a construction plot, not marked, so we were curious if we are permitted to park there.
All in all, a great disappointment.

I came here twice during normal working hours on days they are operating. On both occasions-nobody here! Sign on the window reads, "They aren't taking visitors due to reconstruction from June 2018- December 2018." Well, it's March 2019- open your doors or change the sign on the window so people know that you're not accepting visitors.

After several attempts to see the famous villa of emperor Constantine near Nis finally we did it. This time the site was open and the huge modern protection covering over the ruins seems to be finished. But what a disappointment! All mosaics were covered with sand and the tourist actually have nothing to see except some restored walls. I didn't understand what actually protect this huge vault if the main attraction of the villa is not exposed. Such a pity!

Apparently it's been closed down for years. Locals say the government is renovation but there has been little work going in other than to remove artifacts and place them in the Archeological Museum

This place has immense significance and historical value. It's not too far from a city centre, ticket is cheap and there's a lot to learn.
Only downside it's closed for late autumn, winter and even early spring.

This is only recently opened to the public with some excavation still in progress. 4000 meters of mosaic tiles in grand romantic villa dated to 6 BC. Incredible detail still preserved. A definite must see!

Добрый день. Вы оставили отзыв о Medijana в Нише. До Вас писали, что комплекс закрыт на реконструкцию. Уже открыли? Вы смогли туда попасть? Собираюсь в сентябре в Сербию, хочу посетить :)

Добрый день. На сайте народных музеев Ниша (НАРОДНИ МУЗЕЈ НИШ) указано, что медиана все еще на реставрации.
Но я не знаю насколько регулярно обновляют этот сайт, возможно, имеет смысл написать в туристический центр Ниша (visitnis).
