A very moving memorial. This is a bit outside the city but definitely worth the trip. It is important to make sure that you go and see the mural wall which tells the story in pictures.
The site is a bit unkempt and i would suggest to the government that they should take better care.

These structures are representative of the prisoners from the concentration camp. Very symbolic of them having been taken to the woods and killed. The structures appear as fists in defiance.

A nice break from the hectic city and a complementary must see if you have been to the concentration camp. Accessible on public buses

The Bubanj memorial park is located southwest of the city center on a forested hill called Bubanj. During the Second World War, this place was one of the largest conspiracies in Yugoslavia. It is estimated that between 10,000 and 15,000 people were shot here. The memorial park consists of several parts that symbolically depict the horrors that occurred at this place: • Forest - shows the main place where the fights of the Partisans took place for the liberation from the fascists • The path that leads to the monument symbolizes the path by which the Partisans went to freedom . • The monument consists of: - a horizontal stripe of white marble with emblematic scenes depicting the suffering of the enslaved people and the final victory of freedom. There are also verses by Ivan Vuckovic from Nis who say: "The fists of rebellion and repentance, the fist of the revolution, the fist of freedom, came from the blood of the communists and patriots. They shot us, but they never killed us, they never conquered us. We have sunk into darkness and free the sun from the sun. " Monuments in the form of 3 monumental fists of different heights that symbolize both the child and the woman and the men who were shot at this place.
Now it's a beautifully landscaped park, an oasis of greenery that you should definitely visit.

The Bubanj memorial signifies the killing of 10,000 people at this sight. Sombre wide open space with magnificent "3 fists" monument in the centre. Parts of the park (Stage/seating) at the rear of the monument do seem to be littered but there were mowers working when we visited clearing the area.
It's a fair walk up from Nis but well worth it on a clear day. Tie this trip in with the Red Cross Concentration Camp. I would recommend the camp where you can learn more about the occupation in the surrounding area, followed by the hike up the hill to Bubanj

The trek up to Bubanj HIll is not taken lightly. You need to use a bus or better yet a taxi. It's blisteringly hot in the summer. Bring water......lots......there's no shops or kiosks anywhere near.
After a hearty walk up to the park the 3 fisted monument comes right out of the ground. The white wall behind is the only marker for any names. There's not much here. It's quiet and solemn......but that's the way it should be. A place to walk the path around the monument and ponder the thought of the hundreds marched up here and murdered as they looked up to see the stars one last time.
It's no museum.....it's a mausoleum, so quiet and proper etiquette are required. A few park benches are near the trees to bring a sack lunch and reflect. I've been to many of these around Europe........this one stuck with me. Extra tip: Ask around, they do classical music concerts up here regularly.

Personally what attracted me to this park was the story behind it (the killings that took place there) and the impressing 3 fists standing up. I was here on a sunday morning and I was all alone. What I found a little dissapointing was the amount of trash laying around. The place was littered with bags, bottles etc.
Tip: I was here in the late summer in the morning but there were already bugs biting me, so carry insect repellent if you are sensitive to this! There is no restaurant or toilet facilities (at least I didnt see any) so carry food and water if you want to stick around.

Love to see that finally people are taking care of this great park with monuments. It was a may 1st holiday and I remember from the past mountains of garbage and fire burning after barbecue not extinguished. Now it’s much better. I saw young people taking care of garbage. I saw so much sport activities. Simply great.

This heartbreaking monument is a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Nazi persecutions perpetrated during the Second World War. It is regarded that more than 30.000 people of various ethnic, religious and political background have been killed and buried at this place. If you're in Niš and you'd like to go outside of its urban core, and you'd like to get to know the history of this city, then this would be the right place worth a visit!
