Very close to the North Gate of the city walls, we find this beautiful Orthodox church. Unfortunately, although we passed twice it was not open and we missed the opportunity to see the remains of its religious murals, as well as the tent of Saint Osanna of Cattaro (1493–1565). However, even so, it is worth taking a short stop to admire the church that dates back to the 13th century, paying special attention to its beautiful relic metal gates.

An interesting experience learning about Blessed Ozana and seeing her remains in the glass covered coffin in the church.
We came across the church by accident and I asked the lady in the church who Blessed Ozana was, and tried to find out her story- the lady in the church was unwilling to tell me anything unless I bought a Kotor guide for 7 Euros which I didn't want.....so we left the church.
I then asked one of the girls in the Adventure Montenegro office (they are fantastic) who gave me a locals account of the legend as follows:
Blessed Ozanna lived in the 16th century and was from a poor family in the mountains but had many visions and wanted to come to Kotor to be a nun. She came to Kotor and started to help the poor people by taking from rich. At some point she was stopped and challenged but said she was carrying only roses - and miraculously all her goods she was carrying turned to roses. She lived as a hermit in a cell in the hills and is credited with saving the city from attack by Barbarossa.

A beautiful old church in the center of Kotor old town,that was built in 1221 on the site of a 6th-century basilica. This is not something you’ll want to skip. This Catholic Church is distinguished by impressive 20th-century bronze doors covered in bas-reliefs, depicting the life of Ozana of Cattaro. And in a glass coffin containing the body of Blessed Osanna of Cattaro (1493–1565). She was what is known as an anchoress, choosing to be walled into a small cell attached to a church so as to devote her life to prayer.

We came across this church (which was marked on our map as St. Mary's) as we were wandering through the Old Town. It was closed then (and the couple other times we walked by during our stay in Kotor) but the intricate metal doors still attracted our attention. The church exterior is small, but we were happy that we'd stopped by if only for a few minutes to look at and examine its impressive doors.

The beautiful door tells a story that was explained to us by our guide. The church opens to the public at 9am. No entrance fee.
It is small and holds some precious pieces.the alter is typical of the time. The person on duty sells books on kotor and enjoys speaking about the church.

This small church sits on the site of a church which dates to the 500 AD era. The present church dates to about mid 1200's. The frescoes are Greek and estimates put the paintings at about the 14th century. It is a treat to see them, or what remains of them.
The glass coffin contains the remains of a very special saint (1493-1565) who started life as a sheep herder and household domestic. At age 22, she answered the call and became a nun. She chose to be walled into a small cell attached to a church so as to devote her life to prayer.
Her prayers for peace, people, and the community of Kotor are said to have been answered when an Ottoman invasion was thwarted during her lifetime.
No simple feat, she is in line for canonization as a true saint.
The docent at the church made this all the more meaningful. Pictures are allowed. The fragile nun wears a mask but her hand bones, turned brown with age, still clasp her rosary.

This church has an other name: Sveti Maria. It’s from the 13th century, it was built in the Byzantine-Roman style. IT’s a simple church but it’s worth a short visit because of its original frescos. It’s free.

It worth a visit, anyway will be a short one, as long as the church is very tiny. Impressive what left from originally wall paintings.

One of the churches of the old town. Beautiful, but not out of the ordinary. It is worth a short visit.

The architecture of the door was stunning. The detail. Nice building but always appeared to be closed. We tried a few times. Even if you can't get inside, worth a look from the outside.
