The Northern Gate is much less impressive than the main Sea Gate into the city; it's mainly just an opening through the walls. So I wouldn't recommend seeking it out just to see it. We did use it once, though, when we were hiking the Ladder of Kotor, and it was a convenient exit point from the city without having to walk all the way around the walls.

This Gate was my least favourite of the 3 gates, came across it by accident and exited the old city from here and then reentered the old city from same gate.

It was nothing special, maybe nice view from the bridge looking up to walls and castle, other than that don’t go out of your way to see north gate.

Had lunch at the Bastion restaurant which sits adjacent to this somewhat non descript gateway. Have to say it has the least character and is the least memorable of the three gates to the city. It is important as it is strategically located next to the Scurda River and links up with the Ladder of Kotor, the ascending wall terminating at the fortress atop the nearby hill. We passed on climbing the ladder as at our ages (79-80), mobility and stamina aren't exactly our strongpoints!!!!

One of the three entrances to the old town. Not very impressive, but the area is beautiful, being on the river bank. Another name of it is Skurde Gate, after the name of the river.

This was my least favourite gate of all three. The other two had better settings and more character. This entrance rather than a gate has a bridge but it comes out into a dingy car park! I used it just to go to the supermarket!

We actually liked the sea gate the best, but this one was no slouch either. Right next to the wall and the tower, its a great way to go in the city!

This gate was our favourite. It was built in the 16th century by the Turks and is largely well-preserved. You can clearly see the fortifications as well as the defence platforms. There are sitting areas nearby so you can take a break and enjoy the views.

Our driver parked outside the city walls nearby, grabbed our bags and off we went through this bridge/gate and on into the cobblestone pavement through the alleyways to check into our hotel.

Beautiful area - mall close to this area, just outside the city walls if you are into that kind of thing -

Located at the north tip of Old Town Kotor , as you enter from the small bridge over the Scurda river . This is where we have entered the old town on our arrival (as our rented studio was only 4 minutes walk away) .On the outside a beautiful view of the impressive city wall and bastion . Once inside , you see the Church of St. Mary Collegiate , and opposite from the church is the alley to the entrence of the Road to the Kotor Fortress .
A great welcome !!

Northern Gate has another name of "River Gate". There is a bridge outside the gate and cross a river. Under sunshine, river water is greenish and clear. It's very beautiful.
