The Old City of Kotor has some of the most beautiful city walls in all of Europe. The stout stone walls and fortifications rise from moats and surround the city. The fortifications continue up into the mountain range above the city - simply stunning! The city gates are small and narrow and obviously designed with security in mind. Enjoy this... More

Great walk and views. Chapel mid way up for a restful break. Take your time and enjoy the mountain and bay views. We took a light lunch and snacked along the way up the wall. Descent brought us back through a neighborhood, which was quite interesting to enter city and neighborhoods from hill side. Battlements are in much disrepair so... More

We arrived by cruise ship and the sight was fabulous, the port is tiny and we arrived in the middle of it. The stunning water falls are all around the fotifications and run through it. As we left the walls were floodlight magnificent.

These walls protected the old town of Kotor as well as other sites within the town. Apparently the old town and the fortifications are in the list of World Heritage Sites.

The fortifications of this lovely little town are very impressive. The walls completely surround the town and ascend the steep hill behind it. One has to admire the sweat and tears it must have taken to build these walls. To reach the castle at the summit of the hill, one must climb 1350 steps. Two of us got as far the... More

It's a TripAdvisor review that pointed us in this direction. We headed out of the old city through the north gate, or river gate. If you continue over the bridge, and a second, you can start walking along the river. You will come across a fence and a narrow crushed gravel path between the fence and riverbank. Follow that path... More

There are 2 routes up out of old town which merge together after about 10 minutes of walking either of them. From there it's a further 30 minutes or so to the top. We had planned on hiking the Ladder of Kotor while we were in the area but couldn't afford to dedicate the entire day needed to complete that... More

We spent two hours just walking the quaint old winding streets to see how the locals live. Just lovely and clean. Be prepared to climb many stairs and if you do the walls, you must be in excellent shape or you'll die. Love shops and restaurants, very busy with one or two cruise boats visiting!

We climbed the walls right to the fortress at the top, taking our time to enjoy the fantastic views on the way. Unfortunately, just as we started, we encountered a rain shower, which made the stone steps and gravel paths even more slippery than when dry. I really recommend that everyone wears some sort of walking or enclosed shoes, as... More
