Serbian National Theater is a nice building located in the center of Novi Sad, the second largest city in Serbia. It is located in the main square and you can see it, when you walk around the center. Nice.

I didn't go inside but from the outside it's not a very attractive building. From the exterior, I wasn't tempted to go inside.

My only motive for this review is to point the shallowness of the person who reviewed it before me. Ok, comment was maybe on the building itself, but the building is only a package. A fine one, i would add. I could elaborate on this, but i do not think it is necessary. Serbian National Theater is a beautiful place of culture, and should definitely be visited. Best regards to everyone . Ivan.

in this theatre you can see classical operas and modern ballet, also plays by yugoslavian authors. some festivals, for example Novi Sad jazz festival take place here. there are several halls of different capacity, all of them are rather comfortable. prices are not high. and there is no buffet as we are used to in russian theatres.

For Serbs, it is an important building because, in 1861, the first theater in Serbia was opened here. Probably, the original building (destroyed by a fire in 1928) had an interesting architecture, but the current building is ugly. I did not like it. Take 2-3 pictures and then go on - there are many other interesting things to visit in Novi Sad.

During a few weeks stay in Novi Sad I visited Theatre several times, for comedies (of famous Serbian writer Branislav Nušić), ballet (Swan Lake), opera (Carmina Burana) and all events were highly professional and in a pleasant atmosphere. And the price of a ticket is lower than the cheapest student price in some W European theatre.

Being the second largest city, the beauty of the city is in it's name which in English translates to " new garden. " Novi Sad is nestled along a bend in the Danube rive, peppered with myriad historical and cultural monuments, verdant parks, bustling squares, and thriving pedestrian zone, and a history-rich fortress standing tall on the right bank of the river.

This building is a host os Sterijno pozorje - very important theatre festival in the region. It offers multiple stages and the main one is very impressive and one of the biggest in ex-Yu countries. I have seen one or two plays that are originaly produced for this stage, in some othter theatres, and it is a complete different feeling. So, if you are looking for some original productions, this is a place to see them.

Buildig is easy to find, it is in the centre of Novi Sad with beautiful stairs infront which are often used for chilling in summer time.

Srpsko narodno pozorište is a spot that you must see when coming to Novi Sad.

I enjoy visiting this theater because of the multitude of plays it offers, as well as concerts and cultural activities. Also, although dress code is not as strict as it used to be, I enjoy dressing up in formal suits or gowns to fit the atmosphere of the place. I recommend visiting. Also, students have a 50% discount with their student booklet (indeks in Serbian), so they could get a ticket for as little as 1,8 euros or so.
