Church of St. John was initially called the church of St. Trinity and is located in one of the most important city squares. In the middle of the 15th century, the church accepted the fraternity of St. John, and after that the church was called the church of St. John.

This venerable 14th-century lump of stone is famous for the balustrade staircase on the street-facing side, said to be the work of the famous Šibenik builder Ivan Pribislavić. Sprouting from the upper part of the balustrade are a series of angels’ heads in relief form, while a severely eroded lion stands guard at the bottom.

The church’s four-storey belfry boasts the town’s oldest mechanical clock, the dial has Roman numerals and a single (hour) hand, which was built into it after being brought from Drniš during the Cretan War. The dome of the bell-tower was removed in 1862 after a strong earthquake.

At the foot of the bell tower there is a renaissance window, the work of Niccolò di Giovanni Fiorentino, and above the window is a relief of a lamb, under which there is an angel with open wings, a masterpiece of Dalmatian Renaissance.

The church was closed during our visit.

St. John's Church was built in the 15th century under the name of the Holy Trinity Church.
The reliëfs are masterpieces and the bell-tower has a Turkish clock.
Take a look at the stairs as well.

St. John's Church is ~200 m east of St. James Cathedral. It is in Gothic/Renaissance style and was consecrated in the 15th century as Holy Trinity Church. The steps along the south side of the church are decorated with 15th century bas-reliefs by famous Šibenik sculptor Ivan Pribislavić. The four-story bell-tower contains the town’s oldest mechanical clock, made by Ottoman craftsmen. The dial has Roman numerals and a single (hour) hand, and was brought from Drniš after the Ottoman Turks abandoned that city in the 18th century. The dome of the bell-tower was removed in 1862 after a strong earthquake. The base of the bell-tower has a Renaissance window by 15th century sculptor Nikola Firentinac. Above the window is a lunette with a bas-relief of a lamb; under the window is a winged angel. Inside the church is a trio of Baroque altars; the left side altar has a relief of trumpeting cherubs and skulls. Unfortunately, the church is closed to visitors.

This is such a beautiful old church.

I'm not sure of the actual age of the church but it just feels like it has a lot of character and history.

There is a cafe right next to it that you can sit and admire the church.

Beautiful old church, from inside and outside, it's really, a must see place if you're in Šibenik and wondering around the old town.

This church wasn't open when we visited and there were no signs for services.
It has some nice architectural bits like the circular window in the attic, the stairs on the side and the tower. My guess is that it's been converted for some other use.

A beautiful ghotic/renaissance building that looks magical in the sunlight when you are walking in its direction through the narrow Šibenik street(s). It wasn't possible to see the church from the inside, but it's still worth to check it out. It's close to the old city centre and other historic sites and you have plenty of bars farther down the street where you can cool down and peoplewatch .

Interesting church to see if you're in sighseeing in city center. It's a ghotic / renaissance church built in 15th century. Nice balcony, interesting tower built with turkish watch. Near the church there are offices of National park Krka and old public tap (supposed to be from 19th century). As I said, nice place to spent few minutes sightseeing (from outside only) if it's on your way, but if not, don't bother.
