This is one of the nice fortresses above the city of Šibenik. It is relatively wasy to get up there, with some car parking available nearby from it.
The fortress is newly refurbished and looks very nice with a bar. We also had a guided tour and managed to learn a bit on the history of it.
Views from it are great and you can see plenty of nearby islands.

This small fort is a 10-minute walk from the second fort. It has been nicely renovated with facilities for families, with great refreshments.

A pretty serious climb but a very nice view. Not that much to see in the fort itself. Small bar for drinks.

jozefo2013, thanks for the review. We hope you know that the ticket to Barone Fortress includes the entrance to the newly renovated St. John's Fortress? Furthermore, the price of the ticket includes an augmented reality tour of the Barone Fortress, which takes you through the historical moments of this fortress using a tablet with sound and images. Hope you got to see it!

Although the views from St Michael’s fortress are good, they do not compare to those from Barone Fortress, especially at sunset.

We purchased the 3 fortress combo ticket that can be used over a seven day period – a great value at 11.50 Euro. The entrance fee also includes an audio guide.

The walk up from the pier/marina where our accommodation was located, took about 20 minutes (all uphill). Google said 14 minutes, but I have knee issues so we had to take it slow.

Barone Fortress has one entrance, located on north-west side of the fortress, on the Put Vuka Mandušića street. Visitors with mobility problems can access the higher levels via a ramp on the east side of the fortress.

We arrived around 6:45pm. Toured the site – it did not take long, but I learned that the construction of the fortress lasted only 58 days. The Venetian government, which at that time ruled over Sibenik, denied giving money for the construction. Instead, people in Sibenik financed it on their own and built it using their own local citizens. Educational boards are all over the fortress, so you can explore it on your own.

We then picked up a glass of wine from the onsite café and settled down to enjoy an unforgettable sunset with beautiful city views. If you are looking for a place for amazing photos, this is where you will find them. From this height you can even see individual islands in the distance.

A bit about the fortress - The Barone Fortress was constructed in 1646 on Vidakuša hill above the city at the same time as the nearby St. John’s Fortress. The construction was led by Baron Christoph von Degenfeld, for whom the fortress is named.

Together with the remaining three city fortresses, it is a part of the Šibenik fortification system and it played a significant role in city's defense from the Ottomans during the Cretan War.

Over 25,000 Turkish soldiers approached Sibenik in the battle that took place in 1647. After a ferocious one-month siege, the Ottomans withdrew with great losses in both manpower and equipment. Sibenik won the battle, and this victory was significant for stopping the further breakthrough of the Turkish army into the European continent. The Turkish invaders were forced to retreat to the interior, towards Drniš, and never managed to conquer Šibenik.

This site also has a picnic area, a small playground for children, as well as restrooms. One can also drive up but the parking lot is very small.

We liked this fortress more than St. Michael’s. The view is fantastic and the short audio guide tour (20min) is well made. Augmented reality is a nice gag, and we liked the videos on the tablet that illustrated the history well.

It's a steep climb to Barone Fortress. We had free entry but we were not offered any augmented reality tablets (I didn't realise we could ask for them since there were no signs, and staff members didn't mention them to us). Views of Sibenik and Krka river were lovely, and the site is well maintained, but the fortress itself is small and I would have felt cheated if I had to pay.

Experience overall is great! When you buy tickets, first you need to go to the shop and ask for tablet. People there are very kind and helpful. Tablet is leading your from my point to another, at every point you're listening to educational story with AR+ experience. Fortress is not big but the view to city Šibenik is absolutely stunning.
I would recommend buying combined ticket for both fortresses. Definitely worth the price, especially if you're interested in historical aspect of city.

We were there in the evening and had some vine and cocktails. Both really good with reasonable prices. There was also a concert that evening so we really enjoyed the view and the music. The climb seemed too much for us so we got there by taxi but we went back by foot and it took us 5 minutes to get back to the town. It looks so far away when you're in the city but it's really not that far....
