    Good spot to watch
Beautiful fountain situated at one end of the Main Street. Can be very busy as a lot of tours start here. Good place to sit with your ice cream or fill up your water bottle.

Lovely fountain with clean drinking water.
As soon as you enter the old town from the Pile gate, its one of the first things you see on Stradun street. Its a fountain that has clean drinking water and was good to be able to fill your water bottle for free when going past. The fountain has been supplying water to the old town for over 500 years. Its a large fountain made out of sandstone. I loved the different carvings with the fountains coming out of the mouths. The little dog sitting on top of the fountain looks like a new added piece and I couldn't find out what he symbolized. It looks like it was the start point for a lot of tours when we where there.

    Nice cold water
The fountain is built beautifully. It’s the best stopping spot to hydrate yourself with ice water. People put water on their head or they wet their towels to make themselves cooler. The heat was unbearable, not only the temperature was high, but the marble ground and the stone buildings absorbs the heat and bounce it back. The food and drinks are very expensive in the square. Most people bring light food from town and empty water bottles. The fountain is a life saver spot I believe it has 15 or 16 water spouts.

    Imposing landmark
This fountain is located just inside the Pile Gate, and at the start of the main Stradun street, so it's easy to locate and is quite busy most of the time, since it's a convenient meeting point. The fountain itself is a large dome-like structure, with a couple steps leading up to it all the way around which can make convenient places to sit and rest. The fountain works and the water is great to refill a water bottle from, it's clean and good. The area can get hot if you're standing in the sun.

A must see when in the old town
Important to the city when fresh water was an issue. Important today, apparently, for a resting spot for tourists! However, our guide said the water is still safe to drink. I didn't try it. There is damage to the fountain, but it is still a work of art and function. Easy to spot as you enter the Stradun. You can easily find good information about its erection, the extensive aqueduct system and history on the internet.

Giant round structure in the middle of the square
Onofrio's fountain is one of the first things you encounter when entering the Old Town through the Pile Gate. It owes its name to the Neapolitan architect Onofrio della Cava who brought water to Dubrovnik with an aqueduct in the mid-fifteenth century. Rebuilt several times after the earthquake of 1667 and war damage, it is one of the meeting points in the city also to cool off with its water while visiting. This massive fountain is equipped with 16 masks with mouths from which water comes out. The water flows into a stone reservoir below. All topped by a red coloured stone domed roof. It served, like the Small Fountain of Onofrio, exactly on the opposite side of the Stradun, to supply the city by drawing water from a well located 12 km from the town, and has still performed this function since the 15th century. It is often used as a meeting point and rest stop for locals and tourists but is also still functional after six centuries as one can stock up on water for free (and Dubrovnik is now an expensive city where everything has to be paid for...). As an aside, can you see the statue of a dog above one of the spouts? Locals refer to it as “kuchak” the fountain dog.

Quite a striking monument just inside Pile Gate and an obvious meeting spot for tours/groups entering the Old Town. I understand the monument was reconstructed having been partially destroyed during the war in early 90s but still represents a lot of original features. Free to see and hard to miss really though I wouldnt consider it a must see otherwise.

Built in the 15th century as a water source from a spring 12 kilometres away, this fountain is located to the right as the visitor enters the old town through the Pile Gate. The water is drinkable and there is some seating.

Lovely fountain but I understand that it is a more simple version of the original. Clear drinking water flows so a good spot to fill up your drinking bottles…also a nice spot to sit and people watch.
