Like many cities in Europe, Dubrovnik has walls that were once desperately needed for fortification (and in Dubrovnik's case, sadly, not so long ago). Check them out in detail, from above and below, if you have the time--we were on a port call and did...More

There are places to stop for refreshments which are welcome if you happen to be there on a hot day. Go early if it is hot and you can also avoid the crowds - walk the whole wall it is worth it.

I hate to use all caps but the city walls is definitely the highlight of Dubrovnik. I'd recommend to go there in the late afternoon before sunset. Do allow for at least 90 minutes as you will be doing a lot of walking. Also remember...More

We did the whole city wall, it was scenic, historic, heart wrenching. To hear about the city being shelled in the 90’s was so sad. You could see how many new clay roofs there were. The sea views are breathtaking. I highly recommend this walk.

Just outwith the city walls you can climb up steps and get a comparably great view. There’s also the cable car and a high coastal road that can be driven to.
