We had read the blurb so made the detour when driving from Split to Dubrovnik.

"Explore the several picturesque lakes by boat safari or by paddling your own canoe. Swim at some of the hidden lagoons in the crystal clear water. It is possible to hike or bike all the way around the lakes.

The lakes are peaceful and not crowded. The scenery is dramatic with mountains surrounding the lakes. There is an activity store and also a cafe which serves drinks and ice creams."

Unfortunately reality was nothing like my research had implied! Bacina Lakes was hard to find and we drove down several back roads that were very very bumpy! until we found the cafe / activity centre seen in others photos. When we arrived everything was closed up. We had a little wander around to see some of those wonderful views I'd read about... but didn't see anything that special. Yes it was a grey day, but I would not recommend a visit here for views (see photos).

We stopped at this popular 7 lake area totaling 341 acres on our trip from Split to Ploce. The recent rains have raised the level of its pristine fresh water above normal. It a pretty area for boating or paddle surfing in season.

This place is just beautiful! Hike, paddle, swim. And it's not crowded. To keep the balance here is the deal: you should come but don't tell anyone else!

Make sure to check out "paddle surf tours"! Ivan is awesome and gave us a highlight experience!!

Here you can safely escape into real solitude. Tuck away from many over-crowded beaches during July and August season and enjoy clean air, local cuisine in nearby restaurants or simply camp out and picnic by the lakes for some quite down time with your loved one. Great for couples!

We spent a superb afternoon with Ivan, paddle boarding from one lake to another. The scenery was just stunning, so quiet and tranquil. Ivan was friendly and knowledgeable and put us all at ease. Would highly recommend this activity, we are a family (kids aged 11, 15 and 17) and each one of us thoroughly enjoyed it.

Bacina Lakes consist of 7 crypto-depression lakes, with its bottom below the surface of the sea. Still they are fresh water lakes. Anyway, great place to stop and refresh.
