- Maggie MMulwala, Australia187 contributionsGreat little museumExcellent museum, with well curated exhibits. Interesting overall explanations but only minimal info about individual items. All info in Croatian and English languages. The history of the actual building is also interesting, with a good video to watch. Would recommend.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 October 2023
- SB01Sonning Common, United Kingdom894 contributionsFascinating BuildingThis is a 3.5 star attraction, mainly because of the building and its history. Originally a grain store, the “silos” are still in evidence below grids in the floor. A video on a small TV just inside the entrance shows how the building was constructed. It would be better IMO to have this on a bigger screen in a separate dedicated area and also bring the grain stores to life. There are also lots of colourful clothes and some examples of how people arranged their homes in past times which are quite interesting and well displayed. A bit more context would do wonders for the displays. This museum is free with the city pass, but takes a bit of finding, being near the walls rather than being dead central.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 May 2024
- Gabriel BBoston, Massachusetts118 contributionsBest museum in Dubrovnik in amazing old historical buildingBest museum in Dubrovnik in amazing old historical building. Not easy to find, well worth it! (On other sites it's referred to as the Ethnographic Musem, not The Rupe.) Incredible textile exhibit, maybe the best we've ever seen, upper two floors show various objects from everyday life back in the day. Incredible glimpse into the world of Croatians through the years. Part of the combo pass, but was empty when we were there. Stays open late too. (Bathrooms are oddly on top level, up about 50 steps)Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 June 2024

I'm not sure why some of the ratings for this museum are so low. We found both the ethnic displays and the building that houses it fascinating! The costumes and everyday items showed a slice of life in the community and the building itself was a former granary used to store grains. Both the cubbyholes on the second level and the humongous deep holes beneath the building showed it's former purpose.

The Rupe Museum is the ethnographic museum of the city of Dubrovnik (Croatian: Etnografski muzej u zitnici "Rupe"). Like almost everything in the city, the entrance fee of €8 is much too high, but holders of a Dubrovnik Pass can enter for free. It is open every day except Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The museum displays exhibits on the region's cultural traditions, agriculture, lifestyle and traditional costumes. This is quite nice to look at, but unfortunately there is no in-depth information. So a visit would not be a must.

On entry there is an excellent video presentation which explains how the grain silos worked which is super interesting . The building itself is extraordinary, the brick arches over 3 floors are a marvel not to mention the huge underground Vats for the grain. The ethnological exhibits of life in Rural Croatia and the costumes are all first class. Great views from the windows over the Old town. Free entry with the Dubrovnik Pass

This is not only an excellent museum of the history of everyday life in Dubrovnik across the centuries but a place for some of the best views of the city. In addition, the building itself is fascinating, having been the city’s granary for centuries. Such a well organised government!!
The displays cover everyday life, food and drink, costume, crafts and are very interesting.

All museums in Dubrovnik are small, and this is no different, however, I found it to be one of the more interesting ones - once you find it! Included in the Dubrovnik Pass. Displays of photos from people holidaying over the years, traditional costumes, jewellery and farming/household equipment. The building was originally a grain silo, which in itself is a feat considering it was dug out and took over 40 years to complete.

Perhaps More people would come if you gave it a descriptive name. What's a Rupe? I was glad I came and enjoyed the displays of everyday implements, fancy festive wear and jewelry. Building itself is very impressive and affords some of the best views of the city. TIP-IGNORE GOOGLE MAPS! Start your ascent at foot of Jesuit Stairs, unless you enjoy climbing a boatload of steep steps.

Very interesting museum in a beautiful building on the heights of the old town. A former grain warehouse. It concerns the daily life of the inhabitants, their way of life, typical Croatian clothes, millstone, jewelry, basketwork, house interiors....also beautiful view of the city from the upper floor windows.

An ethnographic museum housed in the building of a former grain warehouse. Beautifully done. There are agricultural tools, weapons, folk costumes, jewelry, kitchen utensils. As a bonus, from some windows you have a wonderful view of the old town.
Quite difficult to locate the museum, in the labyrinthine streets of the old town.

You get a lot of background info on the lifestyle and the culture of Croatia years ago. You see old household items, clothes and tools. Fun to get a better view/understanding of the culture. The museum isn't very big though.

It is a card for Dubrovnik that gives you free access to some museums (including the city walls) and public transportation and also some discounts for shops, restaurants and I think even some excursions.
There are three different types of card: 1 day, 3 days or 7 days. The card activates when you first use it.
You can buy it online with a 10% discount (there are three locations in Dubrovnik you can pick it up at) or buy it on the spot (info points, hotels, tourist agencies, there are 47 different places to buy it at).
There is a website where everything is explained, I think you should check it out (just search dubrovnik card on google).
