Galerija Meštrović houses the masterpieces of Ivan Meštrović carved in marble, bronze and wood. The house was built based on Meštrović's design (1931 - 1939), and was intended to be his family summer residence, working studio and exhibition space. It is surrounded by a Mediterranean garden which, with its bronze sculptures and the view of the sea and of central Dalmatian islands makes a unique example of landscape architecture.

We enjoyed seeing this large collection of Mestrovic's work in and around his mansion with its lovely views just outside the Old City. It was interesting to learn more about his life before he moved to the US. The nearby Kastelet Chapel is also worth...More

Best part was the walk from Old Town up to the museum and the chapel. No one there which was good and bad as there was no information provided once you left the gate house. Beautiful sculpture and a maganificent site

There isn't too much information in the muesuem, however Rick Steve escorted us through with his walking tour. I was very captivated by Ivan's story and his empowering sculptures. This was one of my favorites places that we went in Split.

Take a short bus ride outside of town to the beautiful former home and art gallery of Croatia's foremost artist and political activist, Ivan Mestrovic. The palatial estate overlooking the sea is an amazing retrospective of his art and his political activism. During WWII he...More
