Mestrovic is little known by the general Public outside Croatia, even the art-educated like me! Yet he left his sculpture all over the Balkans, was feted in London in the early 20th century and commissioned for several monumental works in the US. This museum presents a lovely summary of his life's work and the stylistic developments he went through. There... More

Classicist stone palace with nice view above the seaside is mixture of pure architecture and good sculptures. You walk between portraits, saints, very strong bodies and more. Stone sculptures are better than Rodin. Visit on your own, in silence, alone or just in a small group. This is not a spot for children, for groups. Pure joy. Don’t miss the... More

An absolute must visit place in Split. Beautiful Arts and Craft building and grounds housing some brilliant work by Mestrovic and his former home/ showroom. Fascinating film about his life and work.

While there are smaller pieces to check out, he is better known for his large, Henry Moore types which are well represented here. Some of you will recognize the elongation of the features from his works in Chicago of the Bowman and the Spearman, or of course, also there in Split of the Wizard near the Diocletian Palace. But, the... More

Even if you are not aware of the sculptor, Ivan Mestrovic, you will enjoy this beautiful museum. It does not take long, but the house is magnificent - clean contemporary designs for the 1930's. All is travertine stone and marble. And the sculptures are spectacular. He conveys such emotion through his sculptures...suffering, beauty, courage, reverie, motherhood, exile. Truly grasps the... I had never heard of Ivan Mestrovik prior to visiting Split, but I am very glad we took the time to walk out to the gallery which, in better weather would have been very pleasant. The sculptures were incredible and the house was beautiful. There was an informative video as well for background information on this very talented artist.

I am not into art or galleries that much, but I enjoyed walking around this one. The sculptures are quite real and expressions on the faces fantastic to look at. The grounds were nice and peaceful. Its a little walk out of the main harbour, but worth it.

Located in the artist's former home, this is a large collection of many of his sculptures in various rooms of the home, along with a few on the grounds. It isn't crowded, probably because it's a pretty good hike from the main area (take a bus), but it's right across from the beach for a post-gallery visit.

It was about a 30 minute walk and the map we had wasn't very specific but we eventually found the gallery. The walk itself is pleasant along the coastline, past a public park/beach. In addition to the sculptures, the house itself and its' beautiful setting enhanced the visit. We also walked a block or so up the street to the... More

Really enjoyed our tour of this gallery. The bronze and wood pieces were displayed with style and plenty of room to walk around them. The artists style was distinctive and very worth the short trip out of the old town.
