As Ports go, it was a busy place moving people and cars around the area, both nationally and internationally. The Port is on the Bacvice side and has the bus and train station close by. When you walk out of the heart of the old tourist area and into the port area, the tone of the area goes down and it seems a little seedier. It does however serve the purpose of what it is but its not a must see.
We went for a walk out to the end of the port and you do get some get some nice views looking back to old town area.
They also had some navy ships out front which was cool to see.

A fundamental hub for reaching many other destinations both by sea and by land. Several hundred meters are dedicated to the docks from which ships depart, including those connecting Split to all the smaller islands. There is also a ticket office.
We purchased our ticket the day before for the first crossing of the day to the Island of Brac. Boarding with our vehicle was quick, but we had to be vigilant with pedestrian and cyclists who at times seemed to weave in and out of traffic paying little attention to the walking path. We spent the crossing time in the main lobby of the ship just enjoying the ride. Disembarkation in Supetar, the main entry point to Brac island was quick and easy as well.

Split's port counts among the busiest ports at the Mediterranean and is Croatia's 2nd largest. Great place to watch ships departing (unless one has to use one - than you get also a first hand experience). And to watch the Sun set by, like I did. With a sailing excursion ship leaving - looked I am watching Christophor Columbus departing to discover the New World.

It's a Harbor where all the time something happens - one of those places in large harbor cities like Marseille or Genova. Plus, in this one are the main bus terminal and railway station at hand. It's the chief departure point for all ferries to the islands and Italy too. A very busy place - but worth seeing.

Split is terrific. We stayed very near the old town and the harbor. Very lively all day long. We enjoyed our 4 nights there immensely. We planned our trip along the coast of Croatia on our own, semi-blindly. I'm so glad we included Split.

Very enjoyable walking around the ally ways & eating at the little street cafes
A tour guide would be nice to explain what we were seeing but you can always read about it later

The place needs a massive clean up in terms of Graffiti which is everywhere outside the the old town.
The port itself had a terrible sewage smell all week which stopped you eating in the restaurants nearby.
Not worth a visit.

We enjoyed meandering along Split’s promenade and then on to the Port of Split area. Lots of yachts and boats moored and places to sit and watch the sunlight reflect off the water. Shuttle boats will leave this area for nearby islands and tour companies can be found in abundance here. Would be a five-star review if not for an unpleasant sewage-like smell in parts. Appears stronger towards the Riva.

We were fortunate to visit Split, the second largest city in Croatia when the sun was shining even though it was October. Split is a mix of ancient and modern and there's so much to see, The Emperior Diocleation Palace, the Cathedral of St. Dominus, a huge outdoor market selling food, flowers, clothes etc. an indoor fish market and also so many bars, restaurants and shops. A lively, lovely picturesque place to visit.

The entire traffic system for the town cannot cope with the summer ferry traffic. Luckily I was on a bike and could weave through the traffic, but it was so bad the cars and Lorraine's could not get off the ferry so it was delayed by 3 hours.
So you turn up at least two hours early and sit around, in the summer that means in the hot sun, for at least five hours. Since you don't know how long the delay will be you can't go into town and look around.
In addition the customs and passport checking took forever, especially since the staff did not turn up for two hours. And it wasn't even lunchtime.
Prices seem fair but the waste of time and the additional pollution from traffic fumes make the experience bad.
Take a book and a power charger, better still pick a different port in high season.
