Amazing experience! The museum is pretty big! 4 floors of different expositions! So if you decide to go there you need the whole day to check everything or just one time one expo. I was very surprised to see the Mammoth jar that was found here, in Kharkiv region! Highly recommended!

Visited the Kharkiv Historical Museum and had a reasonably good visit. I particularly enjoyed the exhibition of Soviet times and the World War II period. Would have liked to get photos of some of the artifacts but did not have permission. Could have done so but the (typical) method of paying to visit each floor, or exhibition, and for photography additionally just added a layer of complexity I was not willing to deal with when I bought tickets. It would be nice if there was signage in English or these audio recordings you can carry around so you can understand what you are looking at would be very helpful here and make for a much more enjoyable experience. The Chornobyl Museum in Kiev does a great job with these in a variety of languages. My companions and myself found the floor walker ladies particularly vigilant in this museum, you are never 'alone' here.

We spent several hours in this museum - especially the sections related to recent historical events were worthwhile to see.

You will find nothing about the interesting, difficult parts of Ukrain history like the first Ukrainian People's Republic of 1917, nothing about the nationalists who saw their hope in collaborating with the Germans against the Red Army twelve years after Holodomor, nothing about the terror of OUN and the struggle of UPA for independence. The is no word about thousands of Ukrains who followed the German advertising as workers and became Diseased People after WW2 who could not return to their country as they were treated as betrayers. You will only find courageous fighters of the Red Army against the Germans.
Time to get rid off the dust of Soviet history!

We spent 3hrs in the museum as I’m interested in history and always want to know more about the place I’m visiting. This was our first visit to Ukraine and to Kharkiv. On a plus side there is plenty to see over 4 floors and it’s well laid out. It’s warm and there’s somewhere to leave your coat which we’re learning is usual here. On a down side, as others have said, the pricing is confusing. You pay for each floor. It was only about £6 for 4 of us to see it all so we paid up front to do that. I suppose if you know which section you want to see it would be better to pay for just that floor. The major downside for us was that there was so little in English which was very disappointing. One in our group was from Ukraine so she translated some things for us but it was exhausting for her! There was confusion amongst the staff about whether there was audio available in English and the consensus was a ‘No’ so we didn’t have that either! It was well worth a visit but could have been so much better for a visitor from outside Ukraine.

if you're interested in the history of Kharkiv and the region. Somewhat strangely, you pay 'by the floor' but the combined cost is still cheap. Start at the top and make sure you keep your tickets with you as the attendant on each floor will want to see them. Also, be prepared for quite a few of the exhibits' descriptions not to be translated into English.

The museum has no exhibit to speak of. Some soviet propaganda, holograms(!!) of medals - very underwhelming. The building itself used to possess an impressive red brick exterior, but after some questionable and expensive renovation that added the glass extension and re-painted he signature wall yellow, lost it, which is real pity
