Arriving by ship you must climb the Potemkin Steps to get up to the city. The steps proportions and size create a very grand introduction to the city. As the day progresses there are vendors selling Russian-type souvenirs. I liked the men with the magnificent eagles that wanted you to pose for a photograph (for a sum of course). I... More

More than a half of stairs are closed for reconstruction, the other part is dirty and almost broken. Not a sightseeing place for now. Just a connection between sea station and center :) Hope they will make it good before summer.

As title- merely a warning for fellow travellers! Can access around 3 metre wide span. Rest closed for repair. (on left descending) Not great for tourists right now but I suppose if you are in Odessa you're still likely to want to go.

When I was there the stairs were under construction, so I didn't really get to enjoy them I am sure that once they are fully restored that they will be great.

The stairs were under renovation, nothing to see during this time. Hopefully it will get better until next season.

In November 2016, most of the stairs were blocked off due to construction. It was still possible to go up and down, but they weren't well lit.

Slightly nervous about what the city authorities might do to the Potemkin steps. You need to see the film to understand why this matters. There's some sympathetic restoration going on in other parts of town, so fingers crossed...

Be aware that the top few flights of steps are now boarded off during renovation by unsightly corrugated sheets so the full sweep of the staircase is not possible to view.
