Guatemala city is surrounded by volcanos, some active some not. We decided to visit Pacaya Volcan because it is active and less than an hour out of the city. We rented a horse for Q100 going up and it helped. The climb up is harsh because there are many parts that are rocky. Our guide was good and helped a... More

This was an exhausting but exciting tour, climbing up and down the volcano - which by the way erupted the day after we climbed it!! Our plane was delayed leaving Guatemala city by the volcanic ash it coughed out! You have the option of riding a horse to go up and down; not expensive. Very nice guides.

The hike was nice and the views are amazing but I was expecting way too much from the volcano.. There's no major lava eruption to see or even lava going down the volcano. You can enjoy roasting marshmelos but don't expect to walk on lava.

I loved the tour to the Pacaya. The guide was very nice and competent and explained us a lot. The hike was exhausting (not tooooo much) and it was totally worth it! It's a great view up there when we arrived. We heard and watched the volcano erupt, grilled marshmallows and watched the sunset, it was beautiful!

The trek up Pacaya volcano was amazing! The views on the hike were amazing. We took our two small children (ages 5 and 8). We rented 3 horses (one for my wife and one each for the children). Once we got to the top we saw the very active volcano spewing lava and also roasted some marshmallows. Fantastic life experience... More

There were six of us (two teenagers, one pre-teen, and three adults). We had hired a private tour guide as well as our guide with our plan to accompany us. We had read prior reviews and ordered ahead to have two horses for the ready. That was the best decision and glad they had a third for us. Let's just... More

We had done a one half day hike to the volcano. I could not believe how safely close we could get to see lava and small explosions from the cone. What a breathtaking view! This was a full experience it was a cool beautiful day and a perfect day for a nature hike. This was a very doable hike good... More

Hands down, this was one of the most challenging hikes I've ever done but so worth it! After following the trail from the National Park Center up to the Pacaya Volcano sumJust a couple weekends ago a few friends and I ventured out on a De La Gente coffee tour not really knowing what to expect since the locals we... Hiking there not for amateurs. One needs to be in a decent shape to do so (no hard core climbing involved). For those out of shape there are so called ecotaxis= you can get there by horse of course for a price of around 100q. Make sure you bring good shoes and a flashlight because sun was setting on our... Arranged for 40 people to travel from Antigua to Pacaya for the hike. Ride there a bit over an hour. Some of the group elected to rent horses but the horses are only allowed to go halfway up. You can rent walking sticks for $1. Horses were $40 US. Not an easy hike but every participant said it was an... More
