We visited this building on the walking tour run by the Whaling Museum. A very grand building indeed.

Interior filled with lovely white rooms full of books and exhibits. Childrens' Museum superb and inviting. Came upon a neat puppet show for kids going on in front of museum/library. Should be noted as place where one-time librarian Maria Mitchell worked for 20 years in the 1800s before and while she discovered her comet. Interested staff. Wonderful getaway location in... More

A very distinguished building and an icon too, when you are walking along Main Street, you could see it from Stop and Shop, a good place to visit too.

Take a gander in this cool place. Look at the vast books as well as the collection of ivory and whale artifacts.

What a gorgeous library. We did venture inside one day. While we were impressed with the architecture we were not overly impressed with... More

A true community gathering place. Houses the library, but has lectures by authors, politicians, artists, et al. Hosts many local events like last weekends Artist Association Fair featuring local artists and artisans. Beautiful outdoor garden area.

Though very different from when I was young, the Atheneum is just a block from Main Street and a wonderful library to visit. The outside columns and architecture beckon you inside and welcome black and white photography!
