Although this museum is not huge it is jam packed with displays and provides an abundance of detailed information about the Inuit and life in the Arctic region. Being born and raised in Canada a lot of the information and displays were very familiar from my high school history classes. One thing that surprised me was the similarities and cross over of our Inuit and Greenland’s Inuit population. Makes sense when you think of it, but the museum lays it out in great detail through videos and artifacts. Very well done. They do a good job explaining the settling of Greenland by the Europeans and the meshing of two completely different cultures. The museum is located right on the waterfront with very scenic views of the surrounding landscape. The morning we were there a couple of whales put on a show for us. Quite the sight. There are a couple of cafes/ restaurants near by and the museum has a nice little gift shop. Well worth the two hours we spent there.

Great museum covering the history of Greenland. We spent a couple of hours in this relatively small but very informative and detailed museum. It covered the history of the people living in this challenging part of the world from the first inhabitants, to the Vikings, to the current inhabitants. Lots of informative displays. Both exhibit items and signage. The museum occupies multiple buildings. Make sure you visit all of them. We almost missed one building. If I ever get back to Nuuk, then I am going back to this museum for a refresher. If you are lucky enough to get to this special part of the world, then spend some time in this museum.

Don't miss this amazing museum in Nuuk. For a very small country (population of 59,000), this museum is a treasure trove of this history of customs of the native Inuit people and also covers the time under Danish colonialism. The museum if flush with colorful costumes, recreation of living quarters throughout the centuries, kayaks, sled, hunting equipment, etc. It even has the mummified remains of an ancient tribe from about a century ago. This is a must do when you are in Nuuk!
