    Statue frenzy
The number and size of the sculptures in and around this square was one of the highlights of our Balcan trip. It is not beautiful and it is not natural, imagine a mix of Las Vegas and Disney and you get the idea. Anyway we enjoyed it.

    Now that IS a Square
A large impressive square, dominated by the huge statue of supposedly Alexander the Great on his horse. Beautifully paved, it is surrounded by shops, some magnificent buildings (and some not so magnificent) cafes and restaurants and includes other statues and a water display around the main statue. Beautifully lit up at night and just made for people watching, it offers a grand segue into the Stone Bridge and walk up to the Old Bazaar.

    Outdoor statue museum
The square should be named the statues square. I have never seen so many statues in one space. The area feels like a big museum with lovely statues, gorgeous building and the river running through it brings more life to it. I truly love the ambiance. I was there for the Christmas and. Santa and his Elves were most present taking photos, and spreading the spirit of the season. A big Christmas brought more festive feelings to the square. Love love it.

If you enjoy the pastries, the drinks, the warmth of people, Skopje is the place to visit! You will see many cultures, many pros and realistically, many flaws but depending the time of day or the month, you may not wish to leave ;) . Oh, did I mention the cheap cheap drinks and food ? Try the vegetables! Check what is a REAL organic fruit or vegetable.

This square is huge but most of it is taken up by the Warrior on a Horse sculpture. There's a few shops and restaurants around it 's perimeter and various walkways leading off of it to other shops and the bridges along the river. Other than that there's not a lot there

Nice square in the city centre which has lots of statues and fountains and is good for people watching. There are plenty of restaurants and a casino around the periphery.

Sorry not a fan of the statues and monumental buildings in an impoverished country suffering terrible environmental issues. Maybe more could be spent on environmental awareness and regulation and the medical system which must feel the strain of the smoking culture. Here is another thought. For each statue melted down and the metal sold off, build a public toilet!

My firat time visiting Macedonia and it's a pretty country. You can see the beautiful mountains as backdrop. It's a nice walk from Macedonia Square over the Stone Bridge to the Old Bazaar. Just beware of taking local taxis. Do not take any taxis off the street. I took one and was overcharged by 5 times, 1000 Macedonian Denkar even though it was a short trip from.the Square back to my hotel Double Tree By Hilton. That taxi was running on meter and was shocked to see the price. It was really ridiculous to get ripped off like this. learnt my lesson to book a taxi using contact provided by the hotel. Such people will only ruin the tourist experience.
