GREAT VIEWS AND GREAT PHOTOS

I took the hiking tail which runs alongside the waters edge which is quite easy and gives you a birds eye view of the canyon for the whole stretch showing you all it's glory. You can stop at various points and get some fabulous photos. The route can cause some problems in places when very narrow and you have to pass people coming in the opposite direction so caution is advised. There were also quite a few broken or missing rail guards in places which the authorities need to rectify before someone meets with a nasty or fatal accident. Overall this was a wonderful experience that can be done - as I di - instead of a boat trip. However, if you have the time I would suggest doing both. Not to be missed

Very pretty and the cave visit was well worth it. Friendly staff.
Safe boat. Also offers kayaking and hiking. Not much information from skipper.

Beautiful riverside

Well the place is amazing and beautiful.

But don't think that you can take a walk to see the cave...(It's a dead end) the cave is on the opposite side of the river and there is no bridge to cross over, but you can watch the entrance.

Take the boat from the beginning, so you don't have to waste 1 hour walk one way to an dead end, and then again 1 hour back.

Wonderful canyon

Matka Canyon is a must-see attraction if you are traveling near Skopje. It is possible to walk down the canyon, as the path is well maintained. But you can also take a boat ride as we did. The trip takes about one hour for both directions including the visit of the Vrelo cave. You have 20 minutes at your disposal to visit the cave, which is quite enough. The cave is very beautiful, but good footwear (not sandals) is required.

Very beautiful place. Unfortunately much more needs to be done by locals to develop into real touristic place. Little things like new toilets, keeping it clean, no rubbish around would make Matka world top spot. I had nice relaxing day but left heartbroken knowing that next time I come nothing will change. Needs more signs “take Yu our rubbish with you” or Heavy penalty for towing rubbish

Super gorgeous Matka Canyon

I will truly love to revisit this place. It has the wow factor. So much to see and do there including Matka lake tour, restaurants and a church. 2 thumbs up Macedonia for keeping it in such excellent condition. I love how some of the rocks were cut out so that you have small spaces to walk through to get to the lake. There is nothing I don't like about Matka canyon. There is also a public washroom on site. I recommend 100%.

Wonderful excursion from Skopje. We took a taxi (20 euro) and then a shor walk to the boats. For 10 euro pp we took a boat trip through the canyon, and got the chance to visit the cave, on foot. Steep and not advisable to elderly people.

Cool Tour for a hot day

It was a really cool experience. The cave was awesome and refreshing. A nice cool spot to have a refreshing drink as well.

Boat service scam

Matka Canyon is beautiful please to hike pretty easy route for young people. However, be careful with the boat service scams!!!!

Worst experience of our lives.

We traveled in a boat that had 10 people over capacity and no life jackets were offered. Luckily a friend insisted all of the children have one and he got off the boat and got them himself. What started out as a beautiful sunny day within minutes turned into a nightmare boat ride. When a sudden thunderstorm overtook our boat and lightening was striking within feet of us, ice cold rain drenching everyone and filling our boat, and waves were so violent we all had to get out of our seats and huddle in the floor of the boat in the middle. they sent a pontoon boat to unload half of our passengers onto In the middle of the canyon during the craziness. I am still shocked no one fell in during the transfer. The waves were hitting so hard and both boats rocking and taking on water. During this transfer, children were separated from their parents and they were crying, and terrified. After the transfer the boat driver refused to pull into Cove to get out of storm, because he was worried about his boat not about all of his passengers drowning. It was a traumatic experience no one will ever forget!
