The memorial and statue were very interesting, but it was hard to enjoy. For one, the information plaque was across the street from the statue and it took a minute to figure out where it was. Also, both times we walked by other people were...More

The Kunta Kinte - Alex Haley Memorial in Annapolis gives a quick view and education of the horrible plight of slavery. Some controversy seems to surround the book/series Roots but certainly an interesting water-side memorial to a very real issue.

I used this trip as a teaching experience for my grandson. Then I was amazed to find out about the extent of the slave trade in Maryland and to visit the site where Kunte Kinte arrived in America was quite interesting.

Please take the time to stop and LOOK AT THIS MEMORIAL. I can't tell you how many parents had to pull their rambunctious kids off it. It's not a playground. Read the plaques, understand the story and internalize the message.

I walked past this several times without even paying attention to it, after all there are statues all over the place around here. But once I realized what it was it didn't seem right. There was not enough impact to memorialize the slave trade that...More

I had mixed feelings about this memorial. First, with all the controversy over Haley's plagiarism it feels wrong to memorialize him for a book that many consider misleading at best and fraudulent at worst. However, Mr Haley's work also influenced an appreciation for exploring genealogy...More

This was a surprise as we didn't realise it was here and had just watched a remade version of Roots. Nice to have a memorial to those who suffered in slavery and trafficking. It's great for a new generation to hear this story. The bronze plaques...More
