Old town with a lot of tastefully renovated buildings. Some areas are gorgeous, and some are in ruins and hopefully will be restored. Presidential palace, newly restored hotel in the main square and churches are absolutely worth visiting. One half day is sufficient.

While in Panama City, you will not want to miss spending a few hours walking around Casco Viejo. Whether at night (streets well lit and policed) or during the day, there is plenty to see. Great variety of restaurants and bars, some restaurant tables set up in the park squares, with strolling musicians. Several museums...spend the time in the Museo... More

I was worried about safety. Our hotel gave us a map that showed us the safe areas to walk and where to avoid which appeared to be everywhere outside of the Casco Viejo area. I printed out a Frommer's self-walking tour and that really kept us in the right areas and gave interesting information on the buildings and ruins that... More

I think if you want a real taste of Panama, its better to stay here than in the city. There is just such beautiful architecture here to marvel at. Wonderful restaurants and bars, and great views from the harbor. Its only a few dollars in an uber to Panama City.

During a business trip we visited vasco viejo a few times. The atmosphere is very safe and friendly. There are very nice bars that have a sophisticated feel to them. There a varios restaurants, some with views of the downtown area and some outside in the casco viejo area itself. A must if in Panama!

An easy safe walk through the old Casco Viejo (Old Town of Panama City). 70-80% has undergone renovations and the balconies, doors, iron works add beautifully to the restorations.

This is the older part of the city, that is rapidly being re-developed and gentrified. Though there are older buildings that are falling down, there are many that have been fully renovated and have expensive shops in them. THat unfortunately would drive away the original inhabitants by pricing them out of the market

Casco Viejo should be a must to visit in Panama. I have visited in various occasions. On June 2016 I discovered it has been restored. Most historic buildings looks beautiful, clean and keeps its identity. Religious places as San Jose Church, monasteries, museum are a great experience for historic and cultural interested visitors. Many restaurants are available to complete the... More
