This church from colonial times has a gold plated altar. It is an example of the Spanish influence in the colonies of the Americas. The walk around old Panama City is an wonderful experience.

I went here on a walking tour of Old Panama with a bus group from Decameron Resort. This Church is lovely. The story of the pirates & disguising the gold was interesting.
This was an impressive church and one that should be visited. Quite plain inside it is however attractive with warm colors. Worth a visit. It sists between Calle 8 and 9
Lots of construction around the church (preparing for the Pope's visit in 2 years) but the altar of gold is the attraction. However the story of the priest and the pirate (not going to spoil it) is what legends are made of.
I don't know how you could visit Casco Viejo and not visit this church. The story is compelling and the church is welcoming. 25cents for a votive. How can you not?
