A visit to this church is a great way to learn a bit about the history of Panama and see a beautiful church at the same time. Worth the stop.

The church interior is beautiful. If you are in the Old City then I would stop by. It doesn't take much time to see as it is a small church.

Our guide took us to this church and all I can say is we were fascinated by its history; especially the story of the "Golden Altar" that legends tell. The guide explained how in 1619 this church was part of "Old Panama" and the pirate, Henry Morgan, completely destroyed the city in 1671 and wanted the "Golden" Altar", which is... More

A rich part of Panamanian history, so glad it was preserved, no matter what version of the story you believe. A peaceful stop is a nice area; a traveler's respite.

This lovely Spanish church is remarkable for it's huge gold altar. Carved in wood and gilt, it is the subject of many legends. Marvel at the intricate details and the depiction of San Jose.

Stunningly beautiful church. The altar, stained glass windows and interior of the church are typical of the old period of the Catholic church buildings, giving all reverence to God.

No need to go out of your way...It's a colonial church...you've seen them before. And that's about it.
