I knew that there was a lake within the Panama Canal but I didn't know what to expect. I didn't image the size, the vegetation, the number of other vessels. The water was the colour of the South Pacific. It was much bigger than I imagined and it took hours to transverse. I can't wait to see it again!

Very interesting lake for fresh water fishermen and just lovers of nature. If you can get some fishing charter and most of them fish for rainbow peacock bass. There are plenty of small bass in a lake. But when you hear monkeys in the nearby woods, birds and ocean going ships passing not far from you early in the morning... More

I took a ferry to Gatun lake. Fantastic trip. Strongly suggest it. At the time it was made, Gatun lake was the largest man made lake in the world. It is still an amazing place to visit.

This tour was great fun. Captain Carl did a wonderful job on the tour giving us loads of info on the canal and jungle areas. He was also very friendly and humorous. Monkey island was deep in the back waters of the lake and they had wifi which was awesome. We then did a kayak trip then short hike to... More

The simple genius of the design of the Panama Canal is apparent in the man-made Gatun Lake. Unto itself Gatun Lake as a part of the Panama Canal is remarkable. As part of the system, it helps shape the wonder of the canal.

From the Gamboa Resort (after we went here directly from the unsafe city of Colon, after taking the canal-train) we took a boattrip to the lakesites just near the Panama-canal. We saw tamarind- and capucine-monkeys and crocodiles. One hour is too short to see all of the surroundings... Nice to pass the canal with the speedboat just besides the very... More

We did a boat tour. I really liked it. The boat operators took us right up to the banks and there were two different types of monkeys who came down to the boat when offered food. There were crocodiles on the banks, but they would quickly disappear into the water when they noticed us stopping.

Take the trip to the Rainforest and Lake, it is worth the visit to see nature at its finest. We did see some monkeys on our tour. We did drive by on the way there to see the 3rd Locks that will be completed next year and also visited the Locks and locomotive area off our ship.

This is a beautiful body of water. We were on a cruise going through the Panama Canal into Gatun Lake. Then we boarded a smaller vessel and cruised through the lake through the MiraFlores Locks. Huge lake and great views.
