We went on a "jugle tour" of the Gatun Lake/River. It was very lush and beautiful. It was awesome to see the expansion on the canal! This place is very beautiful during the dry season.

Our cruise ship was at Gartum lake for 6 hours until it was time to return down the locks to the Atlantic side. There were many large container ships and smaller commercial ships, all waiting for their turn to use the locks. We could see the entrance to the new locks - some shipping is allowed to use this, but... More

This tour lived up to everything we hoped for. My 11 year old was besides himself when we saw three types of monkeys and he was able to feed two kinds. The monkeys did not show at first but our guides did not give up and found them. The boat driver even made it extra fun playing in the wake... More

This is the half way point when passing through the Panama canal. We stopped in the lake which gives you the only view of the canal and the shipping moving across the continent. Some birds to watch and of course the amazing sight and size of some of the container ships passing through.

The following morning we motored through the lake so serene and peaceful one minute then you start to... More

We were expecting a large lake, but not as large as the lake turned out to be. Took our cruise ship about four hours to cross the entire lake.

We went fishing on Gatun Lake and caught lots of fishes. Fun trip, saw monkeys and crocs. Lots of nice little island. Bring SUNSCREEN.

We drove to the other side of the lake rather than to the canal side. Very pretty lake and the communities along the road were very pretty. We always felt safe.

The lake offers something for the nature traveler, something for the construction interested person and something for someone who just likes beautiful places.

We saw the lake as part of a trans canal boat trip. Beautiful and very much what I think Panama was like during the canal build.
