I think it's not a place for tourist - especially part of Avenida Central in San Miguel. We've walked the street from market Super 99 down to Casco Viejo and it could be very scary experience for some people. San Miguel is one of the more dangerous parts of the city - if you go there, pull of your earring... More

This was a fun way to spend the afternoon. While the shops themselves are a bit run down, it's a cool place to hang out and pick up a bargain, or some food. There are some gems hidden in some of the stores as well. There is even a Saks on this street (probably unrelated to the 5th avenue store).... More

If you are a traveler from Central America this is paradise for shoppers. If you are from anywhere else in the world, you won't find much to do around here unless you are looking for night life such as casinos and that kind of staff. It is a modern city with growing rapidly in the heart of an old historic... More

This so called pedestrian Mercado was quite useless. Mostly furniture stores, a few Clothing stores, not really colorful or lively. Don't waste your time.

I spent a little over a week in this area and mostly walked around and looked and observed among other things I checked out places to eat - window shopping - casinos. It was very quiet on one Sunday and so I watched some young skateboarders with a small video recorder trying to get some tricks on the camera. They... More

I think it's fun to walk if you have time, but there are other things you should do in the city in Panama. The street is very dirty, the sun is hot but it's cool to get the local vibe. Don't think you'll buy any souvenirs there though.

Make sure you do not need to use the restroom! If you do, you must walk to the end and go into a nice restaurant in Casco Antiguo (and have lunch). Brick patterned roads in Casco mean "safety" and access to delightful food and clean restrooms!

We walked through Avenida Central to get a bus back to the airport. It's a busy avenue, with lots of traffic and pedestrians. It's not an attraction unless you want to check local markets.

I read in one of my Travel Guides that " Avenida Central has little or nothing for the average tourist " . Well I completely disagree. If you like a bargain & lets face it who doesn't Avenida Central is a definite must visit. I know it has been widely stated you can buy various items of clothing for about... More

My wife and I love to shop and peruse our way through local markets and Avenida Central was a fun, interesting slice of Panama City. I suggest going there during the day and on Sunday as the street is blocked off the closer you get to Casco Viejo. Ask the cabbie to drop you off where the market/stores begin--you will... More
