About
This gorgeous and majestic National Theater was built in the early 20th century, and still retains its elegant charm. Today, its stage hosts classical music, theater and dance performances—and they’re incredibly affordable. If you can’t make one of the performances, at least make time to check out the beautifully restored and preserved space.

Beautiful building located in Casco Viejo. Only viewed from the outside but I suspect seeing a performance here would be amazing.

Was not able to go inside, as I think they are renovating. But, the exterior was beautiful. I believe it is neo classical style. Interesting colors. Worth passing by.

We have lived in Panama for 7 years and the Theater National has been closed for renovated twice in that time - not sure why. However, the most recent renovation is spectacular. Just returned from Ballet Don Quixote performance. They have kept all the 1904/1908 aesthetics, and freshened them up. Now it has improved lighting and excellent sound system when needed. NOTE: The "will call" box office for pick-up of tickets is located on the side (right side as you face the theater) under the colonnade. And the Entrance is located on the opposite side entrance(Left side as you face the theater). The main doors at the front are used for exit at the end of performance not entrance- a good idea for more efficient exit of the crowd.

Teatro Nacional is a neoclassical building made by the italian architect Genaro Ruggieri in 1908, who was in charge of designing a few buildings of that time in Panama like Palacio Municipal. Teatro Nacional is currently under renovations inside, but you can see its facade while wandering casco viejo.

Located in Casco Viejo --- we were only able to see the exterior because the theater was shut down last year due to structural problems. Local newspaper said that it is supposed to reopen to the public sometime in 2018.

The old part of Panama City, known locally (and on TripAdvisor) as Casco Viejo, is brimming with beautiful old buildings which are bedecked in flags and well-maintained. We thoroughly enjoyed our stroll around the area with a self-guided walking tour we found on the internet.
One of the stops is the magnificent 100 year old National Theatre building.
I understand that you can pay to have a look inside, but it looked decidedly closed on the Sunday morning that we were there.
If the inside is as well-preserved as the outside, i'm sure it would have been grand, but had to be content with just seeing the outside.

It's a beautiful historic building, but needs a little bit of work. Hopefully they will take this building and renovate it to it's older glory. Worth a walk by if you're in Old town
