The museum gives visitors an excellent overview of the history of this beautiful nation. It is not a revisionist history; it shows both the achievements and the dark days of the country.

I enjoyed this more than I thought, having been anthropology museums (I get bored easily). Plenty to see and most exhibitions in Spanish and English.

If you don't know much about the history and settlement of El Salvador this is an great place to start beginning with first precolombian settlers up through newer immigrants coming from Italy and the Middle East. There is also an excellent exhibition of recent and current day emigration from the country due to civil war, poverty, and gang violence. The... More

Having been disappointed by many museums in the past, I didn't expect much... But I was pleasantly surprised by this one! When I arrived, at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon, I was the only one there (it felt a bit surreal). As I wandered into the first exhibit, though, my mood lifted. The quality and variety of exhibits was great,... More

Excellent place within the city to know about the origins, including the pre-Spanish colony and post colony with great illustrations and archeological objects related to agriculture, religion, etc.

More than just anthropology, this museum goes from prehistory to catholic influence with the Spaniards to today from Agriculture to burial. Nice exhibits and great bilingual placards. Absolutely something you should see if you have the chance. Educational beyond imagination

This museum is way overrated for me. Downstairs are two rooms. One has agricultural artifacts with explanations only in Spanish... The second is a little more interesting with history of people on El Salvador, but it overloads you with information and is written as if you know the countries departmental geography which as a tourist you normally don't. It gets... More

Once you've visit Joya de Cerén, Tazumal and any other archeological site in El Salvador, you must visit this museum: it helps you to get the full picture, understand the country better and put everything into perspective. Good guide in English included in the ticket.
