Visited last month with my family. El Árbol de Dios is an institute, gallery and gift shop. We had the pleasure of speaking with the artist and watching them work during our visit. The gallery displays the most beautiful work and many pieces are very affordable, too. We left very impressed and happy with the entire experience.

Fernando Llort is a beloved artist in El Salvador. The Gallery has originals, prints, and numerous items painted by the Master himself. This is a highly regarded and a MUST
visit in San Salvador. I have taken social work students from Grand Valley State University in West Michigan every year for the past 10.

This art gallery moved tto a new location about a mile further down the road. This location was demolished and turned into a mall with several places to eat.

This place is just off the street. It has a small gallery and store that accommodates all price points. From mugs to tile art work to prints and reproductions. You can finish browsing and shopping the place within an hour.

If you do not know anything about Fernando Llort, read about his life before going here. This man has single-handedly and selflessly helped many people in El Salvador by teaching them a trade to make a living. The place is part gallery...part gift shop. It is not fancy, and lacks organization, but we so enjoyed wandering around and soaking up the hope, optimism, and love for El Salvador evident in all of Llort's works. Some of Llort's original artwork is on display. These, as well as prints/lithographs are available for sale. I enjoyed seeing different mediums Llort has used and how his style has evolved over time. I found the drafts for the tile installation at the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Salvador so interesting and bittersweet. The Archbishop had these destroyed without letting anyone know of his intentions a couple of years ago. Too bad these tiles were the one thing that made the cathedral special and uniquely Salvadoran. Shame on him!

I read several reviews that lead me to believe that you could buy authenic Salvadorean items to take home. This place is nothing more than two resturants and a small bontique. It's two stories tall but entire second floor is closed. Biggest disappointment of my trip. There is a wall with art work of Fernado Llort that looked ok. I was not impressed at all.

We stopped here during a private tour of San Salvador and we were so glad we did!! The story behind his art is amazing and the pieces on display are gorgeous !!! Brightly colored tiles and ceramics make great gifts -- and the staff was friendly. A nice stop along the tour route!!

Fernando Llort is not only a great artist whose works hang in museums around the world--known as the "Picasso of Central America", he also created El Arbol de Dios (Tree of God) to train other artists so they could earn a livelihood alternative to working in the agricultural fields. El Arbol de Dios has excellent gallery and gift shop for purchase of Llort's iconic art.

My favorite place to visit and to shop! Beautiful items, all hand made and hand painted. We were able to get a tour of the workshops to learn the process. We also were fortunate to be able to see the tiles that Llort designed and made that once hung on the entrance to the Cathedral (until the bishop had them removed for some reason). The place is a place of peace and beauty.
