We just adore art galleries as somewhere to wander, relax, and be challenged in. This gallery had a host of some striking pieces, a couple of which really got under my skin. However, the visual art piece set inside the 'Palace of the Federation' where the 'Architect' was the protagonist was so sublime it had me go back and watch it twice. I think it was called 'Rebuild' I won't spoil it. But look at the credits to see what they did.

This gallery is up there as one of the best in the world. It's worth a visit for the architectural beauty that is the building and the surrounding plot of land that it sits on.
As for Zoran Naskovski's work, it is thought provoking and informative. I was drawn into the piece about JFK's assassination and really liked the TV piece about the Nato bombing, something I didn't know much about (and admittedly still don't) but this gave me an artistic angle/flavour from one perspective.
Really enjoyed the rest of the pieces too, albeit I found the newspaper pieces depressing but that's representative of the medias narrative more than the exhibition. Also feel like I probably missed loads of subliminal messages within the work but I was a tad hungover! Probably would have gone over my head anyway!! 🙂

When we walked into the museum there was nowhere that said pay, nor an obvious place to buy a ticket. We started walking round but got told to buy a ticket by security. (Not a problem we had been expected to pay). It doesn't say but you have to get a ticket from the gift shop area. When we visited there were a few exhibitions on, which were mostly mediocre. The space was large and has potential, but the exhibitions on when we visited were lackluster and boring. The top floor had the most interesting exhibition but not enough to elevate the rest. Could be good if better things were on in my opinion.

I was lucky enough to visit the Mocab during the Pistoletto exhibition. Compared to the layout made at the Royal Palace last year, the works stood out even more here thanks to the brightness of the rooms.
The top two floors housed the monograph of Vladan Radovanovic and it was a good opportunity to get to know this Serbian artist.

I visited this museum after having marveled at the collection at the Zepter. The two art houses were perfect complements, even sharing some of the same artists' work.
This one is organised masterfully, so that if you follow it in sequence from the bottom levels to the top, you wind up learning in proper sequence and in adequate detail the many phases and styles of art in the twentieth century. Yugoslav and Serbian art is on the whole quite impressive, and this vast collection highlights some of the best art I have ever seen. There are various installation pieces that are remarkable also, and some of it was really fun to interact with. Some of it evoked playfulness,
Like some of the art at the Zepter, much of the work reveals the tolerance of the Titoist regime towards the ironic and sarcastic expressions of artists, who must be allowed their cynicism, but who in any other communist society would have been severely reprimanded or forbidden from further expression. This fact and the art that Yugoslavia thus produced reveals a dynamic and exciting society that was unique in every way.
The same trend continues into the post-Tito era and more recent Serbian art is no less captivating, though deeper in import and more tragic in theme. At many times, I was led to reflections of my own assumptions about myself, and, for me, this is the mark of superior art.
The museum is located in Novi Beograd just over Brankov's bridge, is accessible by tram and then a ten minute walk, and the admission fee is a mere 300 dinars. It is surrounded by a sprawling, beautiful park filled with sculptures, and is a few metres from the river with a spectacular view of Kalemegdan and the city of Belgrade.
Highly recommended.

Not worth visiting! Beware, you have to leave your belongings (tupperware bottles, chocolate bars,...) outdoors, in front of the museum entrance on the floor, behind the door. No racks, no cloakroom. The security staff very unprofessional & rude. When we asked them if they can guarantee for the safety of the things (we had a bag with expensive wine bought at the nearby USCE shopping mall) they started to argue with us "We don't guarantee anything. We can't keep an eye on your belongings. You don't come to the museum straight from a supermarket...". No smiles, no polite replies or suggestions how to solve the problem. It's a pity that a visitor's first impression is so disappointing.

This museum is closed for more than a decade. Why is it even listed? Some workers puttering around, but it is closed. And the damn website has opening hours!

I visited the museum for the first time recently as it was closed until last year for renovations. It showcases artwork by Former Yugoslavian artists from the beginning of the 20th century until the present time. Highly recommended if you are interested in art and if you have the time to set aside a couple of hours while in Belgrade.

Very nice museum. Beautiful collection of Yugoslav art. More modern works than contemporary. Worth the visit!

After many years of beeing closed the Museum of Contemporay Art is open. The building as such is worth visiting. Now the Exhibition could be a little of challange for many - even for us - but if you MISS Martinas presentation of her life (on a TV- monitor in a small room on 2:nd floor) her spectacular installations are in many cases ”strange”. But if you watch this film you better understand - why and how. At least we did.
Otherwise the buildning is great and we are looking forward to see other contemporay Serbian artists in the future.
