I took Trolley bus #78 from bus station towards Baštovanska then bus #405 towards Avala. The overall route takes 50 minutes. Here, I started to hike Avala mountain for about 30 minutes for 1700 meter. The hiking route is well prepared and the nature of the road is totally amazing.
Once you arrive, you have to but a ticket 300 RSD for the Avala Television tower access. It’s 200m. The Tower Cafe is 119m and the viewing terace is 122m and both have nice view to Belgrade.
Once again, I get down from the tower and got the way back with more time in nature.
Note, the Avala tower was very clear from plane at nightI couldnt capture it.

I visited this mountain (actually just a bit more than a hill). You can have relaxing walk from base to the top following the existing paved paths. There are also a couple of bars where you can have a drink or eat something.

I went there with a friend. It is a beautiful way up to the tower.
No one accepts to give up real information about how to get to the tower, or how much to pay to enter (obs: my friend is Serbian, so there was no communication problem).
There is one price written in the advertising, however the attendant asked for twice as much to let me in, because there is an included drink - that I didn't want, but was obliged to pay.
Up in the tower, the options for the 'free drink' are not the ones the attendant in the entrance told us.
Besides all this, the view is beautiful. And you can see several towns in Serbia.
Tip: In the entrance, pay only to go until the coffee shop, not to the balcony. It is one level difference and no big changes on the view.

It is outside Belgrade on Avala hill (officially it is a mountain just a hair in height over a hill), from between 15 and 20 km depending on where you are in Belgrade.
There is a famous TV tower with glasspanelled view platform some 100 metres high, visitor centre with souvenir shop and a cafe, children playground and parking - lot free of charge. There is also a small wooden church nearby, popular picknic area, an old hotel that craves for refurbishing, and also a famous Monument to the Unknown Soldier on the very top of Avala. All within ten-minute walk. You pay just for the ticket to the TV tower platform, everything else is free of charge.
The author of the MOnument is renowned Yugoslav sculptor Ivan Mestrovic who made it after middle East temples with female cariatides representing women from different regions of Yugoslavia between two WW. Some like it, some don't, but the place is wonderful overlooking a nice portion of scenery around.
To build the monument an old fortified town of Zrnovo was demolished.
The visit can be a nice half-day outing in combined nature and arhitecture feast.

Very good getaway from Belgrade city. Most importantly it is within reach from the city. It is a nice cool place and great place to go with kids. Lots of trees around. Road to the top was newly laid.
On reaching the top of the hill, we walked towards the water fountain and then continued to the tomb. The 360 degree view from the tomb is also great. Then we continued to the Avala tower by climbing down a little further.
On the way there is a restaurant and a small wooden church. Lots of makeshift shops on the way if you are interested in buying touristic Serbian stuff such as magnets, snow balls etc..
Per person ticket was 300 Serbian Dinar for the closed terrace of tower. If you pay 550 Dinar, you will get access to open terrace with a coffee.
The bottom of the tower is well maintained and is a good hang out place. Lot of tourists does hang out here. On top of the tower, there is always wind. However the structure is steady and you don't feel any movement of the tower.
Avala is in zone 2 of public transport. Suggest taking the daily pass of 250 Dinar. We took tram 9 from Belgrade city center and got down at the last tram stop. We took bus No 400 which took us to the top of Avala. Frequency is not great. However last bus at 8 pm did not turn up which kind of spoiled the trip. Thanks to the three Serbian tourists who helped us get back to belgrade in the night. So beware of taking the last bus back.

You can drive or walk to the top of hill and visit the Avala tower and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Avala hill is about 20 min away from the centre and is a popular place for excursions.

You can use public transportation to go there. You need to go to Square Banjica (you can take the bus 78 from Square Slavija to get there) and from Square Banjica, you can take any bus starting with number 4 (401, 403, 404, 405, 406, 407, 408, takes around 20 min to get there). Do not miss the AVALA bus stop to get of the bus because the next bus stop is 15 min walking distance. You can follow the signs to go up (walking distance is about 3,5 km) and enjoy the forest. You can also picnic on the way. The top part is under constraction but nice. Go to the top of Avala tower to see entire Belgrade from top. There is also a cafe on the top floor so you can also enjoy your coffee or wine. People who works there are really friendly so do not forget to chat with them a little. It is a real nature get away which is very close to the city center.
