This memorial was erected in 2005 in Revolution Square in honor of the victims of the Romanian Revolution of 1989, which overthrew Communism. There has been quite a bit of controversy about the memorial due to the public's general dislike of the design. It has...More

The abstract design of the Memorial has attracted controversy and 7 years after its opening, it was splashed with red paint and the paint still sits there today, giving the monument the appearance of bleeding. Personally I feel the memorial has a very striking look,...More

A simple but effective monument to the people who died fighting the tyranny of the last communist dictatorship. It is a shame that it has been allowed to be damaged at the plinth.

This monument appears to be either loved or hated, I actually quite like it in an interesting piece of art kind of way. Unfortunately, the people who hate it are happy to vandalise it - it's currently got red paint just underneath the "potato" bit,...More

This monument is quite controversial in Romania due to its design and style, but it is a place you need to visit. Revolution Square is where the new Romania was born, and you would be missing out a key part of the city’s history if...More

A monument that would symbolize Romanin people's rebirth after 1989 revolution. Now it's known more for its controversy rather that cultural value.

Going to Bucharest I always visit this interesting monument, which has divided the people for and against. I think it is a product of its own time. The Memorial of Rebirth (Memorialul Renaşterii in Romanian) is a memorial in Bucharest, Romania that commemorates the struggles...More
