The signs might take you there but it’s a derelict building! Can someone please change the signage and prevent a trek to nowhere as there is not much else in the vicinity other than cordoned off embassies.

This is mostly focused on an archeological dig in an area called Bribir which was part of the medieval kingdom of Hungary-Croatia...I think. It’s hard to know from the information provided. It’s not til the second half of the exhibition that you find out what ‘Bribir’ was.

All in all, the curatorship of this museum is a mess. It doesn’t feel like a cohesive collection. There are interesting bits and pieces but gosh they make you work hard to understand how it all fits in. Some objects have a narrative telling you what they might have been used for, while other captions just describe what you can already see, with labels like ‘pot with lid’. Some of the English descriptions are well written and some disastrous. Strangest choice is the recording of walking horses in the room with a few horsey objects.

Hope they do better with what they have some time in the future.

We enjoyed this museum but one has to keep in mind that it only has one temporary exhibition as we were told it is too small to contain all the items owned by the museum. We visited it early September when it was the 1918 exhibition and found it very interesting. We would have appreciated a bit more general background info. We spent an hour and half there. Explanations were in Croatian and in English. Cheap entrance. Worth visiting.

If you like lots of things to read in a jumbled manner then this museum is for you. I too was hoping for a history of Zagreb not just one topic poorly organised and only having many items to read. The rooms did have sound effects but nothing terribly interesting.

Zagreb has a rich history it would be lovely to see it

I was hoping for an overview of Croatian history here, and was especially interested in WWII, but the museum exhibits were limited to WWI, which was a very interesting time as the Austro-Hungarian empire was falling apart. A lot of it was only in Croatian, so I had a lot of questions for the staff. It seemed from the newspaper clippings that there were Croatians on all sides of that war.

This museum is very small and the name of the museum is a bit misleading. The exhibit centers around World War I and how the state of SHS was established. There are no other periods of history represented here. Moreover, if you don’t read the local language, you cannot get much out of the exhibits because a majority of the exhibits are newspaper clippings from that time period. There are few English translations here and there. But these don’t seem to follow any pattern chronological or otherwise. The exhibit was very confusing to me and did not do a good of educating a non local about the Croat History.

I've visited this museum during the Night in Museum. This museum will get new location, right now can't show everything it has. There are many better museums in Zagreb but this one is worth visiting too. It has many interesting items and it was fun for me.

Museum about the Croatian cultural and historical heritage. Unfortunately the museum is too small for a permanent display.

This is the smallest history museum I’ve visited - but that’s really only half the story. The current exhibition is essentially random items taken from the museum’s archive with minimal curation (ie only linking items by theme). It’s very hard to follow and there’s very little explanation - and even less information available on the items chosen in any language other than Croatian. To make matters worse, they have really unfriendly staff pacing about the galleries to supervise (ie walking around in circles chatting, in already narrow spaces) and this is really distracting and unwelcoming. They had interesting items on show but it isn’t worth the visit as currently curated unfortunately.

The museum is quite small: it would take 45min-1hour at maximum to visit. It only shows a series of photos& objects from Iugoslavia time, but a guide is definitely needed, not just the succint descriptions they have. It is not a must if in Zagreb!
