About
Museum of Broken Relationships is a physical and virtual public space created with the sole purpose of treasuring and sharing your heartbreak stories and symbolic possessions. It is a museum about you, about us, about the ways we love and lose. At its core, the Museum is an ever-growing collection of items, each a memento of a relationship past, accompanied by a personal, yet anonymous story of its contributor. Unlike ‘destructive’ self-help instructions for recovery from grief and loss, the Museum offers the chance to overcome an emotional collapse through creativity - by contributing to its universal collection.

    A great and unexpected experience!
An unexpected fantastic experience. An emotional rollercoaster of real human stories from all over the world. A great idea from the creator. We had a great time going through these jewels. A true surprise. If you come to Zagreb, do not miss it.
Hi Guillermo, thanks for your review! As a matter of fact, the creators were a couple long time ago, and they decided to create a special exhibition with some of their own objects and their friends. We are glad you like the museum. Kind regards, Brokenships team!

    Not your average museum
This is not your normal museum. It’s a gallery that captures stories/memories of relationships that have been broken. These stories come from all around the world - most of them are personal and intimate but anonymous - each of these breakups are documented by a single object which personifies the event. It is cleverly curated and well worth the visit.
Thanks Dingo for your review and letting other people know what to expect. Our curators will be happy to read your comment as they work hard on finding the best balance with all the exhibit stories. Warm regards, Brokenships team.

    Small and quirky
We visited the Museum during our trip to Zagreb and found it very quirky and worth taking the time to visit. It probably isn't for everyone, since it takes some time to read the notes with each exhibit to understand the meaning behind them. It's small, so I was able to read about everything (as a fairly fast reader) in about 45 minutes. Some of the stories behind the objects are interesting, others quite sad, but this unique museum definitely sticks in your mind.
Dear SnowyShasta, we hope you enjoyed the museum. It is mainly a reading experience, as we believe it is the best way to access the stories on a more personal way. Kind regards from the Brokenships team!

Enjoyable but started to get bored towards the end
Because it's different, it makes an intriguing visit. However, the exhibits often have long explanations with quite small print and it becomes tiring to to try and read all of them especially when it is crowded. It could be structured better - perhaps having themed sections. There were a few exhibits concerning objects that people had had relationships with. It was an interesting theme - different - and surprised us because we only thought of relationships between people. Most of the relationship exhibits concerned boyfriends/girlfriends, husband/wives and a few other people. Like to see other relationships explored more and increase variety.
Dear Jacqal, thanks for your feedback regarding the exhibition. We will have them in mind for the next exhibition. Kind regards, Brokenships team!

Fascinating snapshots of regular people’s lives, through the objects they owned
Are you the sort of person who likes the window seat in your local cafe, so you can watch people as they go past, and wonder what they’re doing with their day, what their life is like? If so—like me—you’ll probably like this museum. Really this place is about the stories behind each object, rather than the objects themselves – although some of the objects do have a certain beauty about them, especially once you know their context. I was particularly reassured to see all sorts of “relationships” represented -– heterosexual, LGBT+, romantic, aromantic, familial, friendships. The collection is spread across a number of small rooms, which can get a bit crowded when the museum is busy. The furthest rooms are nice and cool during hot days, but the ones near the start/end can get quite stuffy. The gift shop is somewhat overpriced – I was able to order the hardback book (of the entire collection) from Amazon for less than half the price it was in the giftshop. (Sorry gift shop! But we did order two iced coffees from the museum bar to compensate!) As others have noted, there is a lot to read here, so if that’s not your bag, I’d recommend you try one of the many other museums and galleries in the city.
Dear visitor, thank you very much for such a detailed review. We will overlook the book situation, as it proves you really enjoyed our museum 😉. Kind regards, Brokenships team!

    Different kind of museum
A different museum for a different experience. Wouldn't recommend a visit for children or people who don't like reading much as the whole place is a collection of items together with descriptions. Personally spent there about 1.5h but depends on how fast one reads. For the right people an amazing visit.
Dear Elizabete, we are glad it was the perfect choice for you. Thanks for the recommendation for those who may and may not enjoy it. Cheers from the Brokenships team!

    Quirky
Thought it was funny, sad and in some parts heartbreaking 💔. Really enjoyed it. Not for you if you don’t like reading! Cafe outside was lovely to wait for the slot! Go up the nearby tower while you wait also! Would recommend 😊

    Unique
The appeal of this unique museum is obvious and it excels at that, objects in it are real objects and the stories accompanying them are real human experiences. You are bound to resonate with some of them, others, you will have a very good understanding and sympathy for. It is an experience that would be like a counter-balance to the polished perfection that you see in positive-only stories on various social platforms. People go through sweet, easy, wonderful experiences, but they also go through intense hardships and heartbreaks. However, in high season, be prepared to crowd in a cue and stand at the exhibits and to read for over 1 1/2 hours. This is not at all a museum where you take a quick tour. To get the most of it you have to take your time and read, a lot, and process the story for a bit, before continuing to next one. We did visit them on an exceptionally hot summers day, and though I think they have at least 2 AC units in there, they would need double the cooling power to make it comfortable.
Dear Mihak, thanks for such a thoughtful and nice review. Each of the objects that are desplayed, were donated by different people around the world, and this is what makes of our museum such a human experience. Best regards, from the Brokenships team!

    Unique and thought-provoking museum
Interesting little museum that will take up about 20-40 minutes of your time. Has about six rooms, each containing items that are somehow linked to a failed relationship, with a plaque telling the unique stories. Definitely a unique concept, not very expensive. Worth a visit
Dear folyom thanks for your review, we hope you enjoyed your visit. If reading all the desplayed stories, it could take up to one hour, always depending on each person of course. Warm regards from the Brokenships team!

    Interesting!
It is interesting, there are so many stories of heartbreaks… some of them are really sad, some are funny. It’s a very nice concept, I wouldn’t go again tho. The stuff was nice :) It has different languages available, which is good for those who don’t speak English nor Croatian.
Dear Gomelina, we are glad you enjoyed. Next year we will have a new exhibition with many different stories, so we do hope you will visit again, Best regards, from the Brokenships team.

The museum is a greta idea. It has a collection of items and short stories about the items and the broken relationship they represent. Some are sad, some are funny, a range of stories for a range of relationships (they're not all the breakups of romantic relationships). The ticket price is reasonable considering it is a small musuem.

One of the coolest places in Zagreb, original, inspiring and super funny. It's a must while in Zagreb. However, exceptionally rude staff in the museum caffe kind of spoiled the fun. Huge difference between good vibes in the museum and impolite waiter. Advice - do the tour and have your coffee somewhere else. Plenty of nice places around where you'll feel welcomed.

In my opinion totally overrated. The idea is very original, but the stories are too cheesy, and many of the objects don't even have a full story behind them. We went with high expectations and ended highly disappointed.

This museum was a really good way to spend an hour or so in Zagreb. Filled with items donated from ‘broken relationships’, it was fascinating to read the stories attached to the items. Some were sad, some were funny, but overall an enjoyable experience.

Great concept which created great expectations; the actual presentation (delivery) of an original idea however is quite disappointing and boring. It was such a waste of our time. They could have made it so much more interesting / interactive, using screens, colors, effets, etc. What’s more: the stories (at least the ones I got to read) weren’t impressive at all. Had it been in another country - the US perhaps, I believe that the actualization of the theme would have been so much more inspiring.
I also thought that the female employee at the counter (for the tickets) probably has an attitude problem and could use better manners.

Dear Io P, We are glad you enjoyed the concept of our museum. Yet it is a pity that we are always demanding technology to be present everywhere and can not enjoy the simple act of reading, like a voyeur, into other people's real life. The idea of the curators was to create an intimate experience throughout the Broken relationship stories which is why everything is desplayed as it is. Best regards from the Brokenships team.

I quite enjoyed this odd museum, whereas my wife thought otherwise! Some of the items had rather sad stories behind them - others were laugh out loud funny. We visited on a Sunday at about 11am and it was a bit too busy for comfort frankly. Good loos and a little cafe which is excellent value. About an hour for a visit.
