Very relaxing place within Etosha mountains. Best in combination with bus Route 66 which takes you up to 1700m . Best when it is clear view but the bus ride is an adventure in itself

It is very beautiful during winter time when the whole building is hidden in the snow. Moreover the sacredess of the place is easily felt once you enter the doors. If you hike the mountain, it is great place to stop by and explore.

The monastery has an attractive setting located on the lower slopes of the Vitosha mountains The Church was reestablished in the 15th century and some of the fragments of frescoes from this time have been preserved., later frescoes still retain good colour. The external brick work forms an attractive feature and the surrounding building is well cared for as the monastery is a functioning cloister. there were few people while we were there so we could tke our time in this peaceful setting.

As someone who lives in an urban city I will recommend this forest/monastery to everyone!. The walk up the road to the monastery takes about 15 min enjoyed by trees, shade, high quality air and fresh spring water streaming down from the mountain. If you're driving just drive up the road till you get to the monastery, park wherever, it's free. The monastery itself is beautiful, it has a small church and a garden, all embraced by the forest. The place very quiet so you can sit down enjoy the birds chirping, the water running down the mountain and the fresh clean air. Truly worth the travel! If you feel like it you have A wonderful hike up from the monastery. I was there by myself for about 30 minutes and only a few people came by, so it was really peaceful. If you don't have a car, bus #93 is your best bet but notice the bus schedule going back, it's not consistent. I highly recommend spending half a day there it's necessary for the soul.

this is a wonderful monastery in vitosha mountain. It is an old church with lovely yard in the climb of the mountain. The energy is very powerful. Everyone who come to Bulgaria has to see every bulgarian monastery. I trully recommend to visit Rila monastery too.

After a contemplative walk through the woods we received a warm welcome. It was great strolling around the grounds, appreciating the beauty of the space.
Founded in 1345 by the Tsar, the church has frescoes from following centuries. A glorious iconastasis is to be seen adorned with an array of holy saints. Numerous paintings portray biblical scenes.
Arriving early we were the only visitors at the time, so got a full experience of what attracted the monks to this lovely area.
