Brutalism- architecture building with 3 floors.

Ground level not much. there is a cafe and a gift shop.

First floor: Three big rooms as unfortunately one of the bigger rooms was closed and one smaller room about the pre historic displays.

The second floor was about the independence drive , post Turkey and more political with a room dedicated to new archeological finds for 2023.

A reasonable in site, could be further improved.

Free parking. Ticket price 10Lev but can also buy for Boyana church with a dual ticket at 5lev and located 8 minutes away by car.

This museum is not in the city center. You have to take a cab, drive on your own, or a combination of Metro and bus and a slight bit of walking to get there. If you catch a bus on the way back to City Center, get off at the Business Park, walk a couple hundred feet further and catch the Metro. Take a pic of the station name when you begin your journey. The Bulgarian alphabet is Cyrillic ( a bit similar to Greek).

The National Museum of History is a big former Soviet building. If I recall, the museum starts with the neolithic and continues to the modern world. I'm interested in history and archeology, so I loved the museum. On the ground floor there is a small cafe. I had a really good sandwich---lots of stuff on it---and a big Heineken beer, for around 10 lev. A great bargain. The tables and chairs were sticky and dirty, and I just pretended that I was still in East Bloc times.

There is a coat and bag check---a room to leave your stuff. The staff was friendly and helpful.

I’ve visited by myself but it could be with the family as well. You can see lots of artifacts of Bulgarian history not only pre historical times, medieval ext. I didn’t see many things about ottoman time and communist time. If you are interested in gold, silver and jewelry you must visit…

Although located away from the city centre, it is worth making the trip to visit the museum. Well laid out over a number of floors, with good English signage, it contains a vast array of artefacts from throughout Bulgaria's history. Notwithstanding that a couple of important eras were not covered - communist era for example - there is still plenty of interest to satisfy any history buff.
The interior of the building itself is impressive; there is a cafe/bar outside at the back; pleasant gardens; toilets inside and not to forget the long walk to the museum from the entrance gate - probably about 300m.

The building is great as an example of grandeur socialistic style, nice exhibitions concerning Bulgarian ancient, medieval and nineteenth century history. Shame they still miss out the ottoman and communist periods, as if it would create a much more interesting and complex overall story…

The halls in the museum are changed periodically. It is also suitable for young children. There is a possibility of a talk so that the visit can be more complete.

The museum is spread over several floors. Inside there is a lot to look at from different eras. You can drop off your coats at the entrance so you don't have to bring them with you, and the museum also has a toilet, a lift, a gift shop and a small bar. I suggest buying a combined ticket (together with boyana chuch)

Far out of the way and the history of the building and any part of WW2 and the Cold War is not prominent. The main attraction of the national crown was not there. Pointless journey for only a few decent artefacts.
